People won’t get as many colds, is how White House spokesperson Dana Perino put it yesterday when asked about global warming and criticism that the Senate testimony of one of the nation’s top scientists, CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding, had been “eviscerated.”
While Perino was giving blondes a bad name, elsewhere President Bush was attacking Castro, in “what aides called a defining speech for his U.S. position on post-Fidel Castro Cuba”.
According to The Miami Herald, President Bush was applauded by Cuban Americans in the audience 20 times while invited foreign diplomats “mostly held their applause until the end.”
Get the picture? Who is listening any more, except the people already in the echo chamber?
According to The Miami Herald, “Bush used the occasion to draw a line: There will be no concessions to Cuba’s communist government.” That’s a “defining speech”? It's white noise for everyone else.
The invited diplomats were bored. Said one, “It was really nothing.” As the world understands, it's always been more about Florida than Cuba.
Back in Miami, one spokesperson of the Cuban American community that supports President Bush said: “I think the president’s speech could be a catalyst to open the door in Cuba… for the people to lose their fear.”
Wait. This is the president who helps people lose their fear? I don't think so.
This is a president for whom the fear card is every other card in the deck.
Pray, next November, for a new arrangement.
In the meantime, there is an end-of-the-world exhaustion to this administration-- no matter how many times it tries to plant the flag of democracy in Cuba.

Great writing gimleteye...i wish i had your turn of phrase...
She claimed that “the decision” was “to focus that testimony on public health benefits” of climate change.” “There are public health benefits to climate change,” asserted Perino.
I HAD TO GO TO THE LINK BECAUSE I THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING.
The sad part at 81 and on his deathbed Castro can run circles around Bush anytime.
What we say to cats vs. what cats hear: The news quoted one Cuban-(-American?) as saying basically the “president says the US will support those trying to overthrow the government.” Add another room to the museum?

You're too smart G.O.D. to believe that only Bush uses Cuba to win the electorate! Both Republicans and Democrats, when in Miami, praise Cubans and wish hell to Fidel and his brother, Raul. Our Commissioners only have to mention Cuba, their service in the 2506 Brigade, the Bay of Pigs invasion, how they will assist Cuba after the Castros fall to immediately win votes. Why? Because Cubans are the ONLY Hispanics that vote for anything -the rest feel too important to stand in line to exercise their right to vote.
So, why does it make you wonder why politicians use the same rhetoric when coming to Miami? Obama said he'll have talks with Castro -do you believe he'll win in Florida? Politicians are all the same and if you believe Democrats are any different, you're in for great disappointment!
I think it's pretty much understood Dana Perino is eye candy for idiots with short attention spans. What she says makes about as much sense as Bush's foreign policy. But I digress...
Unfortunately the Cuban base in Miami will more likely than not get suckered by Bush as they do with any idiot that comes here singing the Cuban anthem and promising change. Bush is not the fool in this case (how often do you get to read that?) We are. We fall for this rhetoric every four years. Shame on us for expecting the goose to lay the egg and then being left with it on our face.
GOD did not write this blog...anon, gimleteye did.
