Very Funny: People Think The Army Corps are Protecting Miami's Wetlands. by Geniusofdespair

Army Corps Wetlands Giveaway. This links you to a weekly list of public notices the Army Corps dutifully publishes of people/corps wanting to fill in wetlands in Florida. They approve most of them. The Army Corps goes through this permitting process and I can't figure out why. They rarely deny a permit. Maybe they go through the motions so we think they are doing something or to collect money for the permits.

Here is one that was posted in Miami-Dade April 16th:
Location: The project is located along the juncture of Krome Avenue, US-1, and Card Sound Road
Description: The applicant proposes to impact approx 12.72 acres of freshwater wetlands to construct a restaurant, hotel, office, convenient store and rest stop area in/over navigable waters of the United States.

Another 12.72 acres of wetlands will bite the dust very soon. Hit on the illustration above to enlarge it.

P.S. Someone might tell the Army Corps that there is Environmentally Endangered Land (EEL) property to the East of the Gateway property (I put checkered pattern on Gateway--Alicio Pina's land).

Meanwhile, the planning division of the Corps hosts elaborate going-away-parties to congratulate everyone on what a great job has been to done protect the Everglades and South Florida.

Interesting that the address of this project's applicant is none other than that of our esteemed ex-mayor Alex Penelas.

I looked up the Corporation: Gateway and the officer is PINA, ALICIO. Penelas is there too?

Penelas is doing lawyering these days. He must be doing some development issues; that cannot be a surprise.

He is and was a politician. Does anyone expect anything honest or decent from one of them?
