Carl Hiaasen says get the focus off killers. By Geniusofdespair

In today's Miami Herald, Carl Hiaasen says we (meaning the media too) should Focus on the victims, not their disturbed killer.

My friend in Michigan called a few months back to try to make sense of her neighbor’s suicide. She wrote to me after this mass murder, again trying to settle her mind, to make sense of the senseless.

Let me share a truth with you. You can’t make sense of radically, mentally ill people. They look at reality from a different plane, like their mind is trapped in a different dimension. Give it up. Trying to figure out this guy in Virginia is like trying to put together an all white jigsaw puzzle blindfolded, like trying to straighten a tuba, like trying to fit a 240 volt plug in a regular socket, etc. You get my point.

So, read Carl’s article. And don’t comment. I hate this subject, just like I hate American Idol: I voted for Sanjaya 3 times trying to deflate the show. Why? I hate that more people vote on this stupid show then vote during Presidential elections.

I am a real hater today, don't get in my way.

P.S. I am not going to add Mass Murders to the index, this will be filed under miscellaneous...

Media focusing on murderers, whether they are insane, terrorists, or just out of control people encourages others who have the same inclinations to do the same thing. (If my behavior is in the media, it must be tolerable, and therefore, I am accepted and important.)

Copycats get their ideas and encouragement from somewhere.

Where does the public's "right-to-know" stop?

Where does the victim's rights start? Where did the days of being sensitive to people's tragic moments go?

Where is healing in countless replays of tragic moments?

There is no healing in those countless replays for those touched by tragic events. It is brutal and self-serving on the part of the media and I believe, irresponsible journalism.

I complained to NBC about their devoting an entire half hour to the shooting at VT. It was leering and disrespectful of the tragedy. Read Frank Rich in the NY Times today.

You certainly are nasty today! Perhaps you should see a therapist. Perhaps when all those who sudddenly show a nasty sreak should be forced into therapy before they blow a gasket and go to far.

Mensa - it is not the nasty people you should be afraid of -- it is the dark brooding ones...those are the ones that snap.
