Two weasel Commissioners: Barreiro & Martinez by Geniusofdespair

These two weasels, Commissioners Martinez and Barreiro, are actually threatening us, the public, with retribution in the form of "More Cost and More Government" if we vote for the strong mayor.

To explain this, I have to quote liberally from the Newspaper Miami Today, week of January 4th below.

Other large cities have this form of government and they don’t have the nonsense that Barreiro and Martinez are proposing here. These evil commissioners are saying they can’t trust the mayor to tell them the truth or do his job so they will have to have more staff to check on what the mayor is suppose to do and also duplicate what he is doing. They are also saying they won't be able to trust the county staff anymore. Read for yourself from Miami Today:

Mr. Barreiro said a new executive branch would be needed to duplicate the existing budget department's functions. The commission, he said, would have to enlarge its staff to perform research and analysis currently conducted by administration employees.

"There's no question the government will have to grow," Mr. Martinez said. "Right now, if we direct the county manager to give us a report on an issue, we'll have it in 30 to 60 days. But we won't be able to tell the mayor to do that. And if we do, the mayor could ignore us. So obviously, if we're going to find out the truth about a matter, we have to have someone working for us that we can trust to give us the straight facts."

Mr. Martinez said the proposed change in government would dramatically alter the commission's dealings with county department heads, who would report directly to the mayor. Under the strong-mayor plan, he said, county departments would be less professional and more political.

"The bottom line is we'll need a way to determine whether our questions are being answered on a professional or political basis," Mr. Martinez said. "We're going to have to move the budget office under our control to make sure we don't get lied to."

(NOTE THEY MENTION “TRUTH ABOUT A MATTER” AND THEY “DON’T WANT TO GET LIED TO.”)

AM I THE ONLY ONE AS MAD AS HELL AT THIS? THEY ARE NOT BLOGGERS - THEY ARE HELD TO A MUCH MORE POLITE STANDARD THAN WE ARE. HOW DARE THEY INSINUATE THAT THE MAYOR IS AN INCOMPETENT LIAR? AND HOW DARE THEY THREATEN THE PUBLIC WITH BIGGER GOVERNMENT. LOW BLOW! HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK WE ARE BOYS?

Isn't that a Hoot?

Double the size of government at a time when incorporations were supposed to be decreasing the need for county staff?

I am willing to bet the commissioners will try to legislate the Strong Mayor into a web to try to make him/her ineffectual. They will continue making laws that are veto proof, that nip away, at whatever power or control they can find that somehow was missed by the charter change.

PS:
I bet there were some county staff ready to scream and bolt out of county hall when they realized they were gonna be scooped up by the commissioners!

Seems to me that Martinez and his ilk would welcome the excuse for bigger government. More places to hide the loot!

If the proposed plans by the two weasels go into effect, I believe it's time for the citizens of Dade County to take to the streets. Nothing is more powerful and convincing than a group of angry citizens demonstrating against the abuses of the powerful.

Most of all, the publicity that we can get with this, will show to the rest of the country how a small group of corrupt politicians have converted an area that is still part of the USA into their personal fiefdom to be exploited to their benefit as long as they force themselves on the people they claim to SERVE!!!!

I love the part where Martinez says the department heads would become more political.

How much more political can they become when we think about the housing department?

Had the department heads been less political, and not corrupted by the county commissioners, there probably would not have been the tremendous scandal and maybe the housing money would have been used for what it was meant to be!
