Not sure if you know this G-eye, but it is FIU that is responsible for the permitting process.

Although, because this bridge spanned a state highway and onto another jurisdiction, it's a little hazy on who actually is the permitting agency. Was it FIU, Sweetwater, County, State?

Why did Magnum Construction Management after multiple lawsuits by governments change their name to Munilla Construction?
Same principals, same address, new name?

Why did Steve Shiver allow them to donate $100,000 to the United Way and settle a shoddy workmanship lawsuit by the county in order for them to bid on a $25,000,000 MIA project, which they won?
The cost overruns were staggering, who benefited?

Why was Shiver their go to guy in Homestead for the City Hall and Homestead Police Station when Munilla won those bids worth $50,000,000?

Miami Herald, get to work!

They need to provide a list of public projects they have completed so the public can decide if they want to go near them or not. I remember several years ago at Miami Dade College a parking garage collapsed. So, this is not new to Miami. If they worked at the airport, exactly which buildings did they work on? Have they completed other highway projects? Which ones?

#1 several components were not installed on the bridge supports. See photo.

#2 rumors abound that closing the roadway would have led to complaints to politicians about traffic on a workday, so the stress test was performed while vehicles were allowed to pass underneath.

Wow, just wow!

Munilla and MCM have always had VERY CLOSE relationships with elected officials. VERY CLOSE.

Munilla is a rabid Trump fascism supporter.

Kind of crappy going after MCM right away,,,,,,,lets allow a full investigation first and then if they have responsibility they are done.

Are the public projects inflated to cover the costs of the project plus payola? Or were the cost estimates correct, and they just used inferior products, low cost non-union labor, or short cut methodologies to reduce the cost of the project so there would be residual for payola? Or is the payola covered just by cost over-runs? Is payola infringing on the quality of the physical projects resulting in inferior projects that are death traps waiting to happen? Exactly how are they getting extra money for payola from major construction projects?

Government officials made a horrific mistake allowing a construction company to open traffic on a bridge that did not have any cables connected to hold up the span. The cable support tower wasn't even poured. The negligence and borderline criminal behavior of local government to control or oversee aspects of construction is baffling.

What part of the title Banana Republic of Miami is not accurate?

MCM will claim bankruptcy and reemerge as MCM II, same owners, same crappy work, same politicians will sell themselves to stay in or gain office by feeding MCM II more contracts.

Where were traffic control officers? FIU, Sweetwater, MDPD, FHP and FDOT asleep at the wheel and people are dead. Somebody has to be onsite. MCM/FIGG played Russian Roulette with vehicles and their drivers.

It is not baffling, it is Miami, America's own third world Banana Republic.

If this bridge had collapsed in Miami Beach the city would have terminated the company and employees and hired them back as paid consultants with a gag order not to talk to the press. Hopefully the state will enact some laws and the lives lost will not be wasted on covering up what went wrong. The state legislators can hopefully clear up some safety issues with suspended object above roads. That's also a hint to FPL.

FBI should start knocking down some doors. Needless to say County courts are owned by the Miami elite although the case may be in Federal jurisdiction.

It seems to me no matter who is building it, the County's permitting process, and building inspectors should be on the scene and permitting or not permitting things. But that assumes we have qualified, certified, well-trained, and experienced people in those roles. They are not jobs for friends and family, and people just collecting pay checks. These are people whose skills determine if we live or die.

What about when the county handed Vizcaya over to private hands? I think we should have been made aware that Lauren Munilla is over there. The MCM contractors have so much control over the BCC. They probably win a record for rush bids and no contract bids. There is no doubt in my mind that they are benefiting from Vizcaya being privatized. It’s a shame to see our “good” commissioners bend over for these thugs.

Munilla just complete PortMiami Term F upgrades including a new 250ft long pedestrian bridge. This was done especially for MSCs new ship"Seaside" It is now open for use. Proceed at your own risk.
