Crap: Donna Shalala Why this Congressional Seat? By Geniusofdespair

Run for Senator, run for Governor not this seat Donna Shalala. The 27th District is already over-run with candidates:

Mary Barzee Flores - Former federal judge[11]
Kristen Rosen Gonzalez - Miami Beach City Commissioner[12]
Matt Haggman[13]
Michael Hepburn - Nonprofit vice president[14]
Mark Anthony Person[15]
David Richardson - State Rep.[16]
Jose Javier Rodriguez - State Sen.[17] My pick
Ken Russell - Miami City Commissioner[18]

WHY WHY WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Some of the best Democratic candidates in the State are already running here. Why you?

Being a bored 77 year old is no excuse to ruin our chance for a decent candidate. She has loads of baggage. The Clinton name is another mark against her. She's handing this seat back to the Republicans. GRR!

Should definitely be Jose Javier Rodriguez. Smart, relatively young, has earned it. (not that any of that matters in the disgusting current state of politics!)

agree!!!! Not that I do not admire her (though the UM sale of Pinelands to a developer leaves me cold) but there are good -- and younger -- candidates already in the race. Nor am I anti older people. I am one myself. I just think that for some people enough is enough. She should go a on a good road trip with some friends. Relax. And then take the role of a mentor for newer faces.

She is far too old. Congress is a younger person's game. It will take for too long for her to gain any seniority in order to be effective. All she will gain in senility in that time. Maybe she is counting on a big donation from Nevin Shapiro.

Damn, retire. Do one of those non-profits where you raise money from your rare air besties to pay yourself a big fat cat salary.

One no-neck liberal for a no-neck RINO.

The reason may be the presence and dangers of a very corrupt Cubanacracy.

She has lots of enemies. She made bad decisions at UM and then fired 1,000 UM workers to pay for her bad decisions. Many of these people had spent their entire careers at UM. These people were cornerstones in their communities, neighborhoods, and families. They vote every time, and enourage others to vote. She is viewed as an outsider who really hurt this community. She may be running to help a republican win. Wonder why she did not go to her home state to run?

Barzee Flores was never a federal judge, she was a NOMINEE, she was a state-level circuit judge whose nomination was blocked in the Senate

You are right she is too old. The kids are showing us something with the fight on gun violence. Our country is in crisis, they have to start running for office now and taking charge. Some will go to college, others will have to govern and go to college at the same time. We need them in elective office now. They already have a big block of voters now- those 18 yrs.+. If they organize and vote in a block, they alone right now can take over many seats locally, statewide, and in Congress. Unfortunately they don't have the luxury to depend on others, they must push the wagon themselves. Otherwise there won't be a country for them to control later when they normally would be ready.
