ACLU TRAINING: Be there Saturday. By Geniusofdespair

Date and time:
March 11 at 4:30pm ET
Doors open at 3:30pm ET.

Make a Reservation

The ACLU will host “The Resistance Training: An ACLU Town Hall” in Miami, Florida, the main event to launch its grassroots organizing platform, People Power. There will be volunteer-led Action Events taking place in all 50 states on the same day to watch the livestream of the Resistance Training and put local action plans in place.

The Resistance Training will begin at 5pm ET and feature:

• A welcome from ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero
• Lee Rowland, ACLU Senior Staff Attorney, on “Know Your Rights” and First Amendment rights of protesters
• Louise Melling, ACLU Deputy Legal Director, on Planned Parenthood defunding and Affordable Care Act repeal
• Andre Segura, Staff Attorney with the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project, on immigration-related issues, including the Muslim and refugee ban, deportation raids, sanctuary cities
• A live musical performance and an appearance by a guest celebrity
• A national call-to-action to empower local communities to defend their civil liberties

Unfortunately people are becoming complacent, the pink hat tossed aside or mothballed. Occasionally a Presidential Tweet will spark a Facebook reaction...and then it peters out. I guess I am curious if this meeting can spark the sparkless who are back to playing with their kittens, puppies and Grandchildren, too busy in their lives to do something concrete. Complaining on Facebook doesn't count.

Be there for what?

What we have here is the take over of America by a foreign power. It was not done through military takeover, bombs, or fire power. It was done through an election, and the door was racism and they came through the Republican Party. When they showed all the known Trump people with relationships with Russia I could not believe it. The first thing Russia ordered was dismantling of the State Department. All the long-term people are gone. It will be important for the press to report on how they dismantle our government to serve their needs.

The resistance training is urgently needed.

The ACLU only stands up for progressives. Very FAKE organization.

If I thought this country was racist I would leave - have you considered that option?

I will be with the resistance until the end, and won't and run in the face of opposition. I actually believe in America and our democracy. As a matter of fact that belief even transcends how I feel about some people and some groups.

The vote against ACA is a death vote for many Americans. With ACA gone a group of doctors estimated 48,000 Americans will die each year. Yesterday in looking at Trumpcare, they estimated in a few years with it, that 70 percent of the people who now have ACA will be without insurance again. We will be back to emergency room healthcare. The tax cut for the rich who are now paying in to ACA to help keep it going, is not worth all these people dying. Congress is in a rush to kill all these Americans, so rich people can get a few more dollars. Strange values.

It is a sobering thought. All these years this blog has encouraged people to think and then vote. Now we have a situation where people have voted for their own deaths. It was a trap, but they were blind and could not see it. Racism was the cheese and they went for it. Now the trap door is closed. And they will die. . .

It's hard to believe in this blog at all anonymous above, when GOD admitted as a republican she didn't think and admitted she voted for Trump.

I never admitted I didn't think. I thought a lot about my decision. Why does everyone misquote me?

Not only is it a misquote, anyone who has read this blog for years would know the head and the heart of this writer.

The ACLU program was well done and informative. The anti-abortion activists (all of them men) yelling at the attendees as they left the building, and the guy waving the Confederate flag (looking for the Lynyrd Skynrd concert?) were an added bonus. It was great to see people exercising their First Amendment rights to free speech. Thankfully the ACLU is there to protect those rights.
