A YouTube video of a citizen confronting Gov. Rick Scott at a Starbucks is ricocheting across the web. In the clip, the governor -- deeply unpopular in his adopted state -- is like a British general confronted by an American citizen on the streets of Boston in 1773. But it's Florida, 2016.
As this visibly strange and uncomfortable moment passes, the red-faced governor slides away, protected by a retinue of associates.
In modern times, Florida has never had a governor quite like Scott. Disliked by his own party leadership, the governor has retreated even further behind barricades -- rarely visible in unscripted moments, protected by an efficient public relations machine that follows, verbatim, talking points developed by insiders.
Insiders like Big Sugar, for example, that mix wealth, political contributions, and access through mouthpieces like State Representative Matt Caldwell and Ag. Secretary Adam Putnam, to control outcomes.
The pressure campaign against citizens who want to intervene to protect democracy, like those trying to protect Florida's waters from Big Sugar billionaires, is not so different from British sympathizers recruited by the King's men before the American Revolutionary War.
Over a quarter of a million people watched this video as of 4 pm. By the morning of April 7, the video had been view 1.6 million times on YouTube alone. 7:50AM: viewership is up to 2 million hits.

BEST VIDEO EVER. I Would marry this woman, she could be my BFF. She is the best!!!!
Let's unpack this just a moment. I do agree with this woman and her sentiments. However, it's kind of tough for a woman sitting in a Starbucks on her laptop to say she couldn't get Medicaid or "Obamacare." I'm not sure that logic is solid. Medicaid is for children, not parents.
In all states, Medicaid provides health coverage for some low-income people, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Kudos to this lady! And good work by her ignoring the other lady who tries to shut her up.
This should happen more often to politicians in general. If you misbehave, you should be forced to hear about it.
Every man on this planet should learn from that brave American woman.
AWESOME video! We need more citizens who are unafraid to speak truth to power. I will certainly follow this woman's lead and call out politicians who make horrible decisions. #Speakup #ShameonyouRickScott
Says he created a million jobs-WRONG!
Obama created most of those jobs with Stimulus, TARP bailouts so no Depression and the Federal Reserve with quantitive easing...and the influx of new arrivals to Florida.
In fact, Rick Scott and GOP did all they could do to ensure these jobs were NOT created.
She wonders why she is out of work while using free wi-fi and seeking free healthcare. Just another Dem freeloader.
@GUVMINT CHEEZ--Enlighten us, pretty please, as to what's so damned attractive about being corrupt, criminal, and fascist etc., all of which Scott is.... Otherwise, cut your own cheese.
Kudos for this lady to speak out directly to Scott and continue when she was being approached. It's about time something like this goes viral.
And as one comment noted Medicaid is not just for children. Elderly who don't have the financial resources get Medicaid even if they qualify for Medicare.
Rick Scott should be shamed everywhere he goes for what he has done to set back Florida's environmental protections.
Scott will NEVER hold another elected office in Florida again.
Let us not forget the 75 times Scott took the Fifth Amendment in depositions regarding the hospital chain convicted of Medicare fraud. He was the CEO! Taking the Fifth is like admitting guilt. How could he not know what was going on? Just let him run for U.S. Senate (as rumored)!
You go Girl! Jobs, Smobs..Most jobs that came to the state during Dick's time were bought and paid for with state and local tax incentives, that at times include outright CASH to relocate here. Most often we are just out-bidding another state and taking away jobs from there = a zero sum game. BFD Dick Scott. You so Suck to eternity!
