WLRN: A serious look at sea level rise in low-lying South Florida ... by gimleteye

If you missed yesterday's Topical Currents on WLRN, click the link below. Hal Wanless offers a shockingly honest assessment of what is coming to Miami by way of sea level rise.

But if you want to learn about the politics that are preventing Florida from responding to the challenges of climate change -- and politics hid in the background yesterday like a 600 lb. gorilla -- , read Eye On Miami.

02/24/16 - Don’t miss Wednesday’s Topical Currents, for a serious look at water-level rise in low-lying South Florida.

Miami Beach’s storm drains and gutters now often flood with seawater. And experts say area leaders are in denial of almost certain inundation.

We speak with journalist Elizabeth Kolbert, who wrote The New Yorker article, “Miami Under Siege”; and the University of Miami’s Geological-Science Department Chair, Dr. Harold Wanless.

That’s Topical Currents, Wednesday at 1pm.

At minutes 18-22 and 25-26 they talk about how sea level rise will cause property values to start falling. People may not be able to get 30 year mortgages; property values will be "amortized" for the predicted remaining time it will be habitable, etc. Also, as people begin to leave the county, property taxes will have to be jacked up to cover the liabilities (pensions, infrastructure costs, bonds, etc) over a smaller population. {See Detroit}

So, question: people who read your blog know all this coming catastrophe. It might be 3 years, 10 years, 20 years... How many have sold their houses? Do they think they will be smart enough to be the last person to sell before everyone else wises up?

And not one mention of our thinly veneered green mayor Stoddard. Wanless is getting wise to Stoddard's fraudulent green act.
