I GOT BAD INFO LAST NIGHT: I WROTE The Homestead Council rejected passing along Wayne Rosen's request for $3.5 million from Hud for Hud's review. Maybe the Daily Beast article did it, seems like the icing on the cake. They titled it Florida Man Robs the Poor For His Country Club and they called Rosen "Scrooge".
HMMM...My friend went and told me LAST NIGHT it failed, too many questions. In fact, it passed. So on to HUD it goes. Shelley and Burgess were the no votes.

The council approved it with some added stipulations..

The council DID NOT reject it; it was APPROVED.
I just read in the Herald the Council approve it...I dont understand CDBG funds are to be used for:
L/M Income
Area Benefit
The property will be used for an activity
the benefits of which are available to all
the residents in a particular area that is
primarily residential, and at least 51% of
those residents (or fewer if the exception
criteria apply) are L/M income persons.
Example
Purchasing land to be used as a park
serving a primarily residential
neighborhood that is predominantly L/M
income.
L/M Income
Limited Clientele
The property will be used for an activity
the benefits of which will be limited to a
specific group of people, at least 51% of
whom are L/M income persons.
Example
Buying a building to be converted into a
shelter for the homeless.
For more information, see page 3-14.
L/M Income Housing
The property will be used for housing to
be occupied by L/M income persons.
Example
Buying an apartment house to provide
dwelling units to L/M income
households at affordable rents, where at
least 51% of the units will be occupied
by L/M income households
Sorry for the long post...had to post what the funds a used for...not building up country/golf clubs???
The money will be used to offset an assessment that was threatened to be placed upon the residents of Keys Gate.
Unbelievable. Homestead and the US taxpayers are being robbed.
FEDS, FEDS, FEDS.
Williams did not vote either.
So much for an educated vote.
This passed without any architectural drawings, without a business plan being submitted and with copies of job descriptions that will never be fulfilled. The city of Homestead enters a partnership as a silent partner for $3.5 million and has zero say as to putting anything out to bid, enforcing agreements and if the business is sold, oh well.
So what Williams did not vote! what about those that did vote FOR THE PROJECT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH IT, LIKE THE MAYOR, THE VICE MAYOR, ELVIS, and LARRY ROTH! What an indictment on the community especially to the low, poor, and disenfranchise community it really Could have use these funds in the area that really needs it not Keys gate country club where the average membership fee for the club is $2700 wow $2700 discretionary income and why didn't the city or it's consultant proposed this 108 plan from the community development block Grant to the council to be used as leverage to do great projects in the poor area of the community where the vice mayor claim she grew in public housing so much for giving back to the community Patricia Faircloth miss righteous so much MAYOR for doing what you can for the southwest area to leverage those dollars to make that community better so much Larry shame on you mr. I love the kids but yet you don't support any thing over in the african-American community of Homestead. Homestead is 65% Hispanic most of migrant workers I wonder what 3.5 million dollars could do for them but yet you put it on a golf course where the people who may may may be hired can't even afford to play golf Or even buy golf clubs you cant play golf without golf clubs people. Is Mr. Rosen going to buy the poor people golf club so they can go play golf on a World class golf course how much are golf clubs, maybe mr. Rosen can buy golf clubs and golf carts for all the poor people in Homestead and give them out maybe! Maybe $1 million from mr Rosen personal grant from the city could be use Hypocrites! What happens when Mr. Rosen's are laying people off after six months got a love Homestead!
Higher prices for 1,000 homes is the goal. The poor people of Homestead will pay $3.5 million dollars of HUD funding meant to help them so Wayne Rosen and Taylor Smith can market higher priced homes and Frank Castro can build them at a premium. All of this underwritten by the city council. Close to 30 acres of the 150 acre golf course has been set aside. Why? To reduce density.
Homestead should recall Porter, Fairclough and Roth in a year and recall Maldonado now as an example of the outrageous vote of Tuesday.
It will never happen because Hudstead does not care that they are constantly pooped on by everyone.
This golf course renovation is being done as cheaply as possible there are other factors in play here. Namely 1,000 homes.
So if this golf course is open to all the public, free or reduced fees based on income, no membership or residence required ? if so why not let him have the money.
.
Or
.
If the golf course is membership only to those who pay membership dues and pay fees to play and live in Keys Gate the location of some of the highest property values in Homestead. If this is true then don't give him the money.
My guess that I am going to also assessed in my HOA dues.
we will have low income housing built now
