Learn about the Urban Development Boundary (UDB) Line in Miami-Dade County ... by gimleteye

Want to learn about the Urban Development Boundary in Miami-Dade County? Click here and read the "Detailed Report".

From Sierra Club Miami Group:

Call to action - Hold the Line!
Attend the Planning and Advisory Board Meeting
Monday November 2, 2015 - 10:30 a.m.
Stephen P. Clark Center  - 111 NW 1st Street, Miami, FL 33128

Two applications before the Planning and Advisory Board seek to extend the Urban Development Boundary (UDB) line. We urge you to attend the meeting and speak in opposition to applications Nos. 7 and 8.

Here are good reasons not to modify the existing UDB:

There is currently enough land within the UDB to sustain residential, commercial and industrial demand.

The proposed development would have serious environmental consequences for the Everglades, our national parks, and our water supply in Miami-Dade County.

Development of the proposed projects outside of the UDB is inconsistent with the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Project (CERP). It would increase noise and light pollution, thus impacting wildlife within Everglades National Park (ENP), as well as potentially increasing the cost and time needed for restoration by changing flooding patterns and flood control needed. It would also decrease the footprint of the Everglades ecosystem.

The projects would shrink the buffer zone of agriculture between Everglades National Park and the UDB that helps protect the park from the urban core of the county. The region would lose the ecological benefits of the current buffer zone and a highly desirable capacity for local food production.

Development would reduce wellfield recharge and speed saltwater intrusion into the aquifer, leading to increased vulnerability of the region to sea level rise.

Expansion of the UDB would increase traffic congestion and demand on county services.

Application No. 7's proposed changes to Policy LU-8F are unwarranted because they would discourage infill and redevelopment.

Attending public hearings and speaking out is one of our most effective tools in preserving the environment and our standard of living (imagine no more green space).

Need more advance warning and MAYBE I could get my lazy ass to attend.

PLENTY of brown fields to develop inside the UBD.

UDB Line must be respected, protected and not moved unless with a public referendum.

Covenants are too easily broken and really mean nothing. They give politicians cover for the time being then years later apply to remove them and are usually successful. Look at Brown. Do not transmit on both should have been the vote. Please attend the BCC meeting.

Noted- Strategic Planning CDMP states: no net loss of Agriculture on App # 7

Just look at the Industrial and Business properties inside the UDB east of Miami Intl Airport say from N W 20 Street on the south--- Miami Ave on the east and Opa Locks -135 st on the north just needing for revitalization --begging to be utilized 27 Ave Transportation --water--sewer all in place.
This is an IN FILL ability to conquer sprawl not out Kendall and to Krome Ave
With this availability --App #8 should be voted down totally --no transmit
