Transportation accounts for a large amount of pollution. Wake me when the EPA publishes real world tests of passenger cars, diesel trucks, airplanes, and ships.
Our unique geology required international assistance to develop technology to keep sea level rise from swallowing up south Florida. So far there has been little or no political will to address the problem.
What is the "technology" that can make up for a ground of oolitic limestone. Our surface was made from the sea and will return us to the sea. Our ground is Swiss cheese and the sea water is rising beneath us.
Sea level rise is a problem, but the climate change itself will be worse unless we stop it soon. You can move away from rising seas, but you still have to eat.
Did you know that 56% of Miami-Dade County school students attend schools outside of their neighborhoods. There's no penalty to choose any school other than having no school bus pickup.
One result of Gov. Scott cutting the pay differential from teacher's salaries (which had given our school board an annual $6 million boost due to the higher cost of living,) was having poorer neighborhoods reject their local schools. Parents flee from their neighborhood school instead of supporting it. They drive back and forth across the county to get to "better" schools. This explains why there isn't just a snarl during rush hour and why traffic is bad throughout M-Fridays.
How to combat climate change when toxic statewide decision have subtle repercussions undermine our ability to live here.
