In Oregon, home sellers are required to disclose to buyers if a house was previously a meth lab.

In North Liberty City Iowa: A new meth lab cleanup ordinance in North Liberty City will hold property owners responsible for meth lab cleanup costs. Previously, property owners were asked to perform meth lab cleanup on their private residences or rental properties, but there was no legal requirement for them to do so.

When someone is addicted to meth, meth is ALL THAT MATTERS.  The effect of meth on users makes it difficult for them to get organized and keep the kind of focus it would take to keep their house neat and tidy.

Renters who are using meth and/or making meth will try to avoid having their landlord come in to inspect their home, due to its condition and to prevent the landlord from seeing anything that might evoke questions.  Neighbors and other visitors are also avoided by meth lab cooks, for the same reasons.

They say, in identifying a former meth lab:

Meth labs can smell like cat urine, rotten eggs, sewer gas, ether, wet diapers, paint thinners, paint removers, adhesives, cleaning fluids, vinegar, pickled foods, cattle feed lots, and fertilizers.

Meth labs can smell like a hospital due to the common use of ethyl ether as an anesthetic. Nasal irritant. Ether-like: Aromatic, sweet odor often accompanied by a sweet taste.

 Gee, I wonder where all the meth labs are in Florida. There was an explosion in Stuart, Florida of a meth lab.  I read about them in Orlando, St. John's County,  and Santa Rosa Beach (Walton County).  There was a rolling meth lab in the Keys (June 29, 2014 report). In 2013 there was a meth lab bust in Miami at 115 G Street SE -- that is in  Miami, Oklahoma however.

This meth lab was found in a Walmart restroom Alabama.

Missouri, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky and Oklahoma are some of the States where meth is a big problem.  I guess if I lived in any of them, I would be tempted.
