Grace Solares is Running for Sarnoff's Seat 2 in the City of Miami. By Geniusofdespair

Why are you running in District 2 in the City of Miami Grace:
I am running to restore trust and transparency in government - how do I think I will achieve it?  By involving the residents in the process.  Projects that will have direct impact on the residents’ quality of life will be discussed with the residents of the impacted area prior to coming before the Commission.  We need to be more inclusive and have an open process.
I'm a first time candidate because like you and so many, many other Miami residents, I'm frustrated by the actions, and inaction's in some cases, by some of our city leadership. The only way we can change it is by doing the hard thing- running for office and offering a different way of doing things. This is how I intend to govern and represent district 2 and all of the City of Miami residents.
What on earth can I say about Grace Solares? I have known her since the late 90's. We partnered on and organized debates for many candidates. I remember her reign as head of Neighborhoods United, a group of 18 neighborhood associations in Miami, she kept them sharp. Grace is one of the most effective activists in Miami Dade County. She should be clone-able. We haven't agreed on every issue, but Grace is a jewel.  I would vote for her in a heartbeat. Like Daniella Levine, smart and savvy, activists are finally running for office and we are getting the best of the best. Why are we so lucky? She will listen to her constituents, of that I am certain and, if she wins, she will find out you can't make them ALL happy.

We are a long way from J.L. Plummer who ignored us all.

Grace is very experienced. She has decades of experience fighting to improve the quality of life of residents and constituents too busy to fight for themselves. She speaks truth to power. Yes, speaking truth to power ruffles feathers. I want Grace fighting to improve my quality of life. The feathers getting ruffled usually belong to a certain commissioner who forces the taxpayers to pay for a policeman to chauffeur he and his wife 24/7.

Grace has spoken at County Hall and at City Hall. What
have the other candidates done the last 20 years?

Anonymous said...

I have known Grace for years and she has been a forceful advocate for our community and a persistent thorn-in-the-side of special interest. This is great news!

Solares is an activist in name-only. Behind her are big, deep-pocketed business interests. She is no liberal.

Notice that whatever "advocacy" done as part of her job to boost her employer's law firm and her own public image. Of course, all done at the expense of real activists you never hear about. MNU only exists in name only now because of her poor leadership skills. And now that she has abandoned MNU she has tied herself with the "Urban Environmental League" as her new "title".

But let her campaign finance reports speak for themselves, not just my rantings. It reads of developers and city insiders including the Mayor who has never supported any liberal cause (apart from his daughter).

Don't be convinced of this wolf in sheep's clothing. I think if she became the next commissioner, not only will the power go to her head but we will be demanding the return to the better days of Marc Sarnoff!!

SHe is a lovely woman she has my vote. I would never vote for you know whose wife.

Anonymous said...

Better days of Sarnoff? What are you smoking. Solares has always been a member of the Board of the Urban Environment League. Regalado said no to filling in the slip. He has been on a number of issues.

Anonymous said...

Regalado has been RIGHT on a number of issues.

Anonymous said...

Grace Solares is President of the Urban Environment League AND Miami Neighborhoods United. Other than abusing the public's trust by using a taxpayer paid chauffeur driving a taxpayer owned SUV what has wifey been up to?

Anonymous said...

I have witnessed how Grace has stood against special interest groups and irresponsible politicians and has defended community based initiatives. She is a great candidate for Commissioner.

Anonymous said...

"Wifey" is 59. What the heck has wifey done to make Miami better?

Anonymous said...

To the Grace fans, explain this for me:

What has she accomplished? Don't tell me what she fought/sued/complained/spoke against.

When did she ever convince Regalado to refuse a big developer? The unnecessary 99 year lease to a bankrupt company...where was she?

What is her vision for Miami? Beside nice platitudes, how does she that differ from the policies of Marc Sarnoff?

Anonymous said...

Any friend of Regaladoland canNOT and should not be elected to rep us, but then that leaves us choosing between "The Beard", and some other nameless candidates with no backing. It's hard to always try voting for the lesser of all of the evils, especially when the lesser evil has the least amount of funds to have a shot at winning. How do we end this terrible cycle?

Grace Solares founded Miami Neighborhood United (MNU) in 2007-2008. She would meet every month with neighborhood leaders from 20+ neighborhoods throughout Miami. They would discuss planning and pending projects and, when necessary, members would speak out at Planning & Zoning Meetings. Everyone learned more. MNU members like Hadley Williams greatly contributed to Miami 21. Many of Grace's contributions to Miami have been made because she likes helping Miami NOT because she has political aspirations.

So maybe Solares is another Sarnoff. He ran as an activist and we got behind him against Home Depot like Skyrise with Solares. He was elected and we were told that he what he was doing was all for our own good and the good of Coconut Grove, but it was really about was good for him and his "Grove Mafia".

I sure hope Solares and the MNU, UEL or whoever is behind her are not the same tired Sarnoff formula.

Grace went to Tallahassee and spoke against gambling venues in Miami. When you are an activist, and you don't vote in a government, that's what you do, you speak out. Exactly what do you expect her to have accomplished? She used her words and her organizing skill to get plenty done. Don't sell Grace short.

I saw Grace Solares on TV speaking at a Miami-Dade County Commission Meeting trying to get the waterfront site known as Parcel B opened to the public. No one pays her. She volunteers. Furthermore, she is an excellent speaker. Anyone ever seen Sarnoff's wife try to help anyone but herself?

Anonymous said...

Problem one, she is Hispanic, District 2 has been "reserved" for a white member on the city commission.

Problem two, fixing the damage Marc Sarnoff has done to Coconut Grove and confidence in elected officials is a GIGANTIC work requiring intelligence, ethics, education, experience, transparency and strength. Basically a clone of Philip Stoddard

I don't know the lady but she sure looks WHITE to me.
If you can't differentiate between race and ethnicity, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Anonymous said...

No way. She has cost taxpayers over 1 million dollars whith her obstructionists lawsuits against the city. Also is nasty and doesn't have the temperament to be a commissioner. Look at her disclosures , all insiders including Kneaplers wife giving her money. Also took money from David One developer aka new Scotty's Landing bidder. You are mistaken on this one Genius.

Miami residents and taxpayers need more people to have the courage to sue the City when it's low IQ and/or corrupt elected officials do corrupt deals. Filing a lawsuit provides the checks and balances that help slow the corruption. Like corruption? Then vote for Sarnoff's wife.

GRACE SOLARES ALL DAY ! This is a no brainer folks. The fact that business interests are supporting her only demonstrates that even big business if fed up with Sarnoff. Lets face it, Sarnoff is the most devious commissioner District 2 has ever seen. The mere fact that he has his wife running, who has done absolutely nothing for the community says it all. Voting for Sarnoff only ensures that thugs like Steve Marin will continue to run City Hall - allowing for the wholesale destruction of the Grove and generous handouts to developers at the taxpayers expense.Keep in mind that Sarnoff also influences and controls City staff. Those cronies also need to go. Say what you will about Grace. She has been a career activist and effective advocate. Sarnoff (an activist of convenience) pulled a fast one on all of you with the Home Depot issue and with Marin manning the helm. Any way you slice it she is the ONLY choice.

Anonymous said...

But it's Mrs. Sarnoff's seat! Marc wants it that way. And maybe when she wins, the bars in Coconut Grove will close at 9 p.m.!

Anonymous said...

At least Teresa Sarnoff smiles when you pass her in the street. Marc scowls at you like he just stepped in dog poo. But, that's no reason to vote for her.

Let’s just suppose you’re not feeling too well and decide to consult with a doctor to help diagnose the problem and prescribe a solution to help you regain your good health.
A. Would you consult with a specialist?
B. Would you consult with the wife of a marginally successful specialist?
C. Would you consult with a radio commentator or someone with experience in retail and hospitality?

Anonymous said...

The mere mention of Steve Marin turns my stomach! Ugh!
I'm sure anyone who's met him feels the same. He is so vulgar, so disgusting! Tip: Don't ever agree to a meeting that includes a meal, he eats like a pig!

I normally don't comment on this stupidity of comments but may I remark that you have a perfectly good candidate with Rosa Maria Palomino.

You can see she is a true public servant, you know where she stands on issues, you know she cares and you know she doesn't hide from anyone.

Give her a call at 305-985-0050 if you want to talk with her yourself.

Like corruption? Like pay-to-play? Like paying for Marc Sarnoff to have a chauffeur and driver? Vote for wifey.

Anonymous said...

It is inevitable Sarnoff and friends will end up where Madoff is now, shame on the Feds to allow them to rape Miami for this long.

Anonymous said...

If you like your scenery ruined by ugly LED billboards and your car rides ruined by monster billboards on buildings, vote for Sarnoff's wife. Wifey has cashed checks from out-of-town billboard companies already.

Nepotism is a common accusation in politics when the relative of a powerful figure ascends to similar power seemingly without appropriate qualifications. Teresa is related through marriage and blatantly unqualified for any government office weather appointed or elected.

Anonymous said...

You guys know that Teresa Sarnoff is a Stepford Wife. My prediction: She will not be seen without Marc at her side.

Anonymous said...

Marc Sarnoff is evading the law on term limits. If wifey wins Marc will make every decision. In fact, pay-to-play will go into overdrive.

Geniusofdespair said...

YOU MIGHT THINK WIFEY IS CUTE BUT IT IS ANNOYING THE HELL OUT OF ME. Take that word out of your vocabulary and don't use it here.

Geniusofdespair said...

Thank you Hector. Can she raise money?

What has Mrs Sarnoff done to help District 2 over the past 20 years? Nada? Zilch? Nothing?

Anonymous said...

It is shameful, humiliating and a betrayal of trust to think that any elected leader would be so greedy to hold power, so arrogant to think deserving and so miscalculating of our citizens concerns, to even suggest that their spouse should inherit their political office.

Anonymous said...

Has Mrs Sarnoff ever attended a Planning Zoning and Appeals Board Meeting? Historic and Environmental Preservation Board? Has Mrs Sarnoff ever done anything for the City of Miami? Ever?

Anonymous said...

Marc and Theresa are in a sham marriage to begin with. Why is it even a question as to whether she's a worthy candidate or not. District 2 needs to wake up! Lets hope that Grace plays to win! This will be a behind the scenes dogfight with Marin and Sarnoff going all in with their dirty tricks. WATCH

You should see Teresa's first husband. What a hunk!

Grace Solares is a candidate who could be a Commissioner with no down time for training.

Gabriel Mendoza said...

We live in a district that has over 41,000 registered voters. In the 2011 District 2 race for commissioner a total of 4,667 voted of which the incumbent commissioner won with 2,456. This lack of engagement fosters our political environment, where only a few voices engage in the discourse of the dialogue and determine its outcome. Ten percent of the electorate grant the special interests on both sides the power to define the vision and purpose of our dynamic district. With the engagement of more constituents, diverse ideas flow and measures are implemented based on our collective interests.

Ms. geniusofdespair, just noticed the reply. Too many to keep track of... so I wasn't paying attention.

Anyone who runs for office does so either to make a statement or to win. I can tell you that a considerable amount of time and effort have been expended prior to Rosy declaring her candidacy. I know she is in it to win it.

As for money, you'll just have to wait and see if that planning will pay off in the same campaign finance reports we all have to wait on.

It is a shame the District 2 race is filling up with candidates who have no experience, no resume and no prayer of beating the Sarnoff "gravy train" machine.
