Rebeca Sosa: Miami Dade County Commission Chair |
They might not know who it is going to be the next Chair at the County but I think I know. Pepe Diaz won't be -- he hasn't had his epiphany yet. Taking too long -- and everyone will think he is too stupid to not have heeded God's warnings to him. Work on that transformation Pepe, then maybe next time.
Sally Heyman yells too much. I heard that Javier Souto is deathly afraid she is going to slug him when he goes into one of his long winded rants. He asked to be put on the other side of Zapata so he is afforded some protection by Juan. So forget both Souto and Heyman. I, however, would love to see Souto as the chair. Commission meetings would be 12 hours minimum. Such torture, such fun.
It won't be Juan Zapata, he disagrees too much although he and the mayor stirring it up would be fun to watch. I remember when Arthur Teele and Joe Carollo almost got into a fistfight on the City of Miami Dais. They both menacingly stood up to have a go at it. Those were the days. We need more of that. I had my money on the solid bodied Teele at the time, although Carollo was feisty and maybe faster. In County politics I definitely would bet on Zapata over the Mayor.
I don't think it will be Xavier Suarez as we usually go Black, Hispanic Black, Hispanic.
So my best guess is Commissioner Audrey Edmonson. She is no longer one of the unreformable majority. She understands the manifestation of the divine nature of the UDB, Pepe. She finally realized that her district was being robbed and neglected by over-development out West. That got her off the bad list that Pepe Diaz is still on.
Audrey Edmonson: Next Miami Dade County Chair? |
Vice chair? I think it will be Sally Heyman. She has been on the Commission a zillion years and we usually go white on Vice Chairs. Daniella Levine Cava would be a long shot, but so was Bell.
Rebeca (one 'C') did/is doing a good job. I think she will be running for Mayor next.

You are right on the money.
Rebeca as Mayor? What a joke. She hasn't a clue. Audrey as Chair? Hell yeah. She understands more than most the evil machinations of County government and is a quick study. Pepe has yet to see the light of his past digressions although he has tried. I give him that.
I'd like to see Sosa run, just to see the fireworks.
I would like to see Soto as the chair. It would give the public ore insight into how broken county government really is.
all I can say no more BELL............
Commissioner Jean Monestime should be the next chair of the commission . If the major criteria is alternating between black and white commissioners it's time we had a Haitian American as chair
He is educated .. Articulate .. Independent .. Honest (as best one can tell ).. Sensitive to the plight of small business and most of all not easily swayed by the Gimenez lobbyists !
Edmudson becomes reasonable in direct proportion to how close she is to election . She is easily influenced by who spoke to her last , lobbyists and political expediency ( see Hanks article in herald on her meeting with Moss)!
Edmonson also often shoots from the hip prior to getting the facts .. Or not letting the facts get in the way!
Monestime is a fresh voice .. Would be a great symbol to the Haitian community .. But most of all he deserves it based upon demeanor.. ability and qualifications . Tough to find a real leader amongst the brain dead coalition on the commission.
If they forgo the ethnic " your turn my turn chair selection process Zapata would be the most interesting selection. He would keep Giminez and his merry men(and women) on their toes. He would hold the administrations feet to the fire as they try to BS everyone as Giminez gets in election mode.
The smartest amongst the "brain dead coalition " is Suarez but unfortunately the commission and most of the public would often not know what he was talking about ..
So what is the deal with Audrey cohabitating with the disgraced former transit director and d-list lobbyist Roosevelt Bradley. Say it ain't so!
Old news. Who cares? I guess you want to talk about Bovo's affairs too?
I think it is dangerous and counterproductive to characterize the selection of the commission chair as one in which there is an expectation that the post should rotate on the basis of race, gender, or ethnicity. The chair of the commission ought to be selected on the basis of that individual's ability to build consensus when possible and to have the foresight to make committee assignments reasonably calculated to pair the committees area of jurisdiction with an individual commissioner's talents and area of expertise. The committee system is the backbone of the Board's legislative function and too many legislative proposals are not receiving the substantive scrutiny they deserve.
Monestime? Seriously?
Audrey Edmonson is a bit of a dummy. She needs a better staff. She often seems so poorly prepared.
Barbara Carey Schuler started the Committee system quite recently.
You who are concerned with decisions being made because of ethnic and racial backgrounds instead of qualifications: Welcome to Miami.
hell yes! give us a hint on bovo's affairs. help the cause. hes the next to go
Edmonson was at Daniella's election night party. She was not exactly thrilled looking.
Given Souto's work in his district, there would be much action and help for little people all over the county. That would be refreshing for a change. So the politicos would have to deal with long meetings, that is ok. Once the word got out that he solves problems for everyday people, he would need more staff to deal with the long lines of people who needed help with their problems and wanted to see him. He would be an interesting Chair.
An elected official with liens & a foreclosure on his personal record should not be the head of the Finance Committee, let alone the Chair of the Commission. Commissioner Bovo would not be appropriate.
Audrey and Daniela respect each other.
Rebecca Sosa is the new Miriam Alonso. Just a matter of time before the fed raid.
I see the pinwheels in Sosa's eyes. Also a crazed clown smile. Scary.
Edmunson needs to watch out. The Herald quoted her as saying she would consider putting a "black museum" on Parcel B or in the newly renovated Bicentennial Park. Dumb idea. Voters want more open green space on their waterfront NOT more broke fake museums.
