The Ebola Nightmare in West Africa … by gimleteye

When one imagines Sierra Leone, what comes to mind are child soldiers wandering the countryside, shooting guns at other people like drinking a glass of water. The war ended a decade ago. This is the place where Ebola is taking hold.

Ebola is the strong virus infiltrating where shattered tools of civilization; government, police, health care and education to name a few are already weakened.

So picture yourself, now, in a place where Ebola is spreading, where medical workers clothed head to toe in plastic protective gear, in the heat, come for you. You fear authority because authority only ever represented chaos. You run. And you take your talismans and Ebola with you.

How will Ebola burn itself out, under these circumstances?

Thank our lucky stars Ebola is not an airborne virus. So what will happen is that the police and military will fight Ebola like fire fighters in the burning American West. The best scenario is lightly populated areas, where law enforcement can compete to stage a recovery from this humanitarian disaster. That is the best case scenario.

I read the Plague by Albert Camus when I was very young. I am sure the existential meaning went over my head. It was about the bubonic plague not Ebola, but I am sure they are interchangeable as far as the book is concerned. I also read a non fiction book about a man at a leporsey colony. I must have been about 12. I was a strange kid. I think I will read the Plague again and see what I missed. The horrifying details, that I remember.

There is a lot to learn about human nature when disease hits. Read the Decameron.

The panic that the conditions create is just as dangerous as the disease.

Although it was published in 1996, The Hot Zone by Richard Preston gives a good account of the likely origin of the virus and the protocols to contain it.

A porous border, no jobs, 50% on the take, on the road to moral depravity, 17-18 trillion in debt, voters being denied fairness, 1st & 2nd Amendment rights threatened, forced to unconstitutionally buy a product for the 1st time in history based on fraud, military depletion, Ambassador left to die, privacy invaded, scandals amok.

WHY NOT BRING IN AN INCURABLE DISEASE!

You have a warped reality Maria.

You nailed it Maria! Nice job!

Oh Yeah Maria nailed it. Most everything she mentioned could be dealt with by a productive Congress with a sole goal of working for the people, and esp the middle class. And what we have is a bunch of House Republicans that are the least productive ever and a frigging joke, and an embarrassment. Amazing that anyone would put that above from Maria in writing.

Off topic and troll language

If a commenter can write off topic that the House of Representatives is unproductive, why can't a commenter show that they are very productive but liberals just don't like what they are producing?

Whenever anyone effectively punctures the liberal talking points here, you can be sure that his or her comments will be deleted. I am sure you will delete this one, too.

Maria, more than half your paranoid rambling was caused by Republicanoids so we liberals won't take offense. Just shows.
