I got this from an individual in the police union yesterday:
We know the Mayor held a press conference today releasing his budget plan. As we have in the past, the PBA went to hear what the Mayor was releasing but we were kicked out of the meeting and not allowed to attend, listen or take notes of anything that was said. So much for transparency.
I don't like firing people, I like getting rid of programs. Everything they cut from programs I like. How about getting rid of paying for all the purple bags Lynda Bell has been giving out, shirts, and other crap the county gives out. And end those mom and pop grants and those TRADE trips to Spain and Paris. There are so many programs to get rid of. Free turkeys, special events rigged to get people re-elected. Can someone with a brain look at the budget. And all you morons against raising taxes, the Bonds you keep approving are putting us in the poorhouse. They are much worse than raising taxes. STOP approving bonds. And by all means: NO MONEY FOR SPORTS TEAMS OR CONVENTION CENTERS OR MUSEUMS FROM THE BUDGET. I am also against social service organizations getting money from the budget, like Ron Book's charity. HE DOESN"T NEED THE MONEY. Let commissions fund these from their office budgets. It seems disgusting that Lynda Bell has on the agenda tomorrow to divert GOB money (from what were supposed to be worthy projects to stimulate the economy) in the amount of $5,000,000 to her biggest campaign contributor, Wayne Rosen, while people are being put out of work.

For someone who made all his money in the union I don't understand why Carlos Gimenez is trying to bust the union's now.
As with the City the fire union has always been "difficult" at MD.. Maybe because Carlos used to be one of them he knows the drill.
Just like PBA's Rivera won't deal with the Mayors appointed labor attorney Williams because Williams has "inside" information on the PBA, the mayor has insights most don't.
But clearly MDFR is too top heavy. Is that a union issue? Not really, but an administrative one the mayor could address independently.
Perez Art Museum is costing the taxpayers $14+ Mil per year when you add in the debt service. Yup, Perez is losing a fortune. Every month Perez and his museum lose over a $1 Mil. Gimenez's budget fires librarians yet keeps 100+ overpaid employees at the Perez.
A Budget reflects the values of the community. Do we really not care about public safety, think transit should be more expensive, want to increase fees for animal vaccinations, and want libraries run by part-time dolts? Or, maybe Carlos Gimenez has lost touch with the people after spending so much time with billionaires and celebrities who think it is their right to take public money.
The county is top heavy with administrators, because friends and family of commissioners and officials fill MANY of those jobs and they work the backchannels for their own promotions. I know this because I used to work there. Get rid of nepotism, but I don't believe this will ever happen.
above comment: PortMiami is a cesspool of nepotism, favoritism, political favors, travel junkets, insider deals and contracts. Juan Kuryla is the new Carmen Lunetta
The latest scam? A bunch of ancient Cubans led by a Cuban architect (who covets a $8 Mil fee) want Cuban politicians to give them Parcel B. Yup. They don't have two nickels to rub together and the County is on track to fire up to 700 employees but these aggressive Cubans want a $500 mil gift to start their fake museum. Perez Art Museum loses almost $15 mil per year. Museums without endowments are death. Doesn't anyone read the news?
What is the item in re to Rosen? Where is it on the agenda? That will be a great campaign ad for Cava! "Lynda takes care of her campaign donors" (and her Mother) on our tax dollars!
Has anyone done a graph showing the trend of property values vs. property taxes. Something tells me those lines will not correlate. It would also be interesting to see the compliance rate for property taxes by the property appraiser's office. It's probably lower than it could be and that not enough is being done by that office to fix the problem. If the County were to go after more of the current tax revenue maybe there wouldn't be such a big budget gap.
