The two last mayors of Hialeah admit to shadow banking, charging interest rates of 3% a month in some cases. When Carlos Hernandez, the current Mayor, was running he LIED and said it was untrue that he participated in shadow banking. He didn't "contradict himself" in court yesterday, as the Miami Herald said today, he lied when he he ran for Mayor.
This video was uploaded in 2011. Sure doesn't match his testimony yesterday in court.
Meanwhile Former Mayor Julio Robaina's very serious case on income tax evasion is winding through the courts (that is how they got Al Capone). It is totally disgusting. I often wonder had we been given a REAL choice for mayor, would Carlos Gimenez have won? Julio Robaina got a startling 48.98% of the vote. Almost 100,000 people voted for him and he was an accused candidate even then, in July 2011. Carlos Gimenez just was a lucky guy that voters are so willing to elect a man under investigation (in other words, stupid voters).
Gimenez posed as a moderate. Julio Robaina won the absentee ballots by 1,000 votes. In early voting, a favorite of Democrats, Gimenez found victory, 22,315 to Julio's 17,280. Carlos Gimenez had all the Democrat strongholds, but now he is sucking up to Conservative hardliners and the T. Party. Get a moderate Republican to run against him and you can put Gimenez out to pasture. His alliance with Lynda Bell is going to do him in. He is raising money for her. I told his son that it was a big mistake. I believe it. I gave Gimenez a campaign contribution. He fooled me. I will never do that again. And, Carlos we don't want a straw vote including cultural institutes. Just do as Xavier Suarez suggests and REFUND the stripped money from libraries, raise the taxes for libraries or find it in the budget. The Straw Vote will cost us SO MUCH MORE because you are piggy backing other things in the vote NOT FAIR.
Blue were Robaina supporters and Green were Gimenez. Gimenez won in Democratic areas. |

I will vote for my neighbors dog, before I go to Gimenez again.
Actually, I prefer to do write-ins for Mickey Mouse when I am faced with sleazy choices.
Coral Gables voters say:
You just did all of the research about the county mayor that we had planned to do, looking into his 2011 election. He ran under the guise of honest fireman with a strong desire to clean house. When mentioning his name to people, the response is abject disappointed.
County employees across the departments state that he destroys careers, wrecks havoc on departments, and expects the county to run properly from ashes. There's no vision, no proper planning and it's so clear when seeing how the county budget was handled last year.
Suarez is proving himself to be a bold, capable leader at a critical time. If the library system is allowed to collapse, the future of this community is indeed bleak. Leaders like Suarez know when to step forward and stake out a position. Suarez gives us hope.
I know he isn't I the news but what about the Doral Mayor marones?
I saw an article about Mayor Gimenez' support for using $10 million in state funds for the giant "paper clip" tower on park land in Bayfront Park - a for-profit venture. Gimenez calls this tower, "Miami's Eiffel Tower." Priorities please! Wouldn't it be grand if the same $10 million could go to the Public library system for literacy programs.
Exposing fire rescue is the easiest things possible. You just need to publish the EMT calls and the fire call numbers. EMTs should be a seperate branch. At best this would be a week long investigation.
Carlos Gimenez's great friend and campaign contributor is the promoter behind illegal LED billboards on Watson Island and the 1,000' tall clothes pin on Bayfront Park land. Taxpayer owned land. Hmm...
Eye On Miami,
Can you please inquire why that piece of Garbage above (Mayor Hernandez) is still in office? Why has the Governor not removed him after he admitted to a crime?
Oh wait a second. Governor Rick Scott will need the Boleteras again that have worked for Robaina and Hernandez for years. That's why.
Sad state of affairs here.
Disgraced ex-Mayor Manny Diaz is still under investigation by the SEC. Taxpayers have spent almost $2 mil on lawyers so far, on his defense.
Be for real that an agreement was reached between adults on a loan bearing 36% is not the issue, only a 2nd degree misdemeanor in Fl Statutes (not a felony) the big issue is whether or not these wise guys paid the real mobsters at the IRS their vig. Julio allegedly didn't pay up, Carlos we don't know....yet.
Two Anons Above: Governor Rick Scott cannot remove a locally elected official from office until he is arrested or indicted for a felony. That may never happen. No one asked at trial if the feds gave him a grant of immunity, but they probably did. Depending the wording of the immunity grant, he may never face charges. Forget your "Get Out Of Jail Free" card. Hernandez just earned a "Never Worry About Going to Jail" card.
The City of Miami has spent over $2 Mil defending disgraced Manny Diaz and his Yes Man CFO Larry Spring from the SEC. Taxpayers money wasted.
