Dade County Police Benevolent Association and IAFF Local 1403 Firefighters Endorse Daniella Levine Cava. By Geniusofdespair

"I am proud to know that the first responders who go above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis, support my efforts to keep our streets safe and strong. I admire the dedication of law enforcement and firefighters that work to keep South Florida a great place to live. With their dedication in mind, I will put forward the same effort in ensuring those services stay strong. As your county commissioner, with the help of law enforcement and our fire departments, I will work to assure that we can all live in safe and secure communities.” - Daniella Levine Cava

Daniella Levine Cava's campaign has a MAJOR advantage now. Yesterday she got the endorsements of the Dade County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) and the Metro-Dade Firefighters IAFF Local 1403. This is going to be a great help to her campaign. These is the first major endorsements besides Eye on Miami. Let the fun begin. Mayor Gimenez will push even harder for Lynda Bell. Maybe a bit too hard for his guaranteed vote on just about everything.

“The choice for fresh leadership in this race was clear. Ms. Levine Cava will be a breath of fresh air bringing a real voice to residents in District 8. She has a desire to solve problems and is committed to providing a safe community for everyone,” said PBA President John Rivera. The Dade County PBA represents more than 6,500 law enforcement officers.

“On behalf of fighters IAFF Local 1403, representing over 2,000 Firefighters, we are pleased to endorse Daniella Levine Cava. Daniella Levine Cava is a supporter of Public Service and has a strong desire to act in the best interest of the community. It's time to support a Commissioner in District 8 who is ready to improve the quality of service and act in the best interest of the Community,” said Al Cruz, President of the IAFF Local 1403.

Wow. That's good news. Why is everyone endorsing so early though? Gimenez may be the ultimate kiss of death for Bell depending on what he does next with the budget. But.....I don't think Dist. 8 is a union stronghold. Flinn had their support and lost.

Unions come out and work for you. They also vote. They live in the district. Flinn lost because David Rivera did Lynda's absentee ballots. Need I say more?

Last anon, you are correct. What's even funnier is Bell has no congressional office to tie her campaign to since there's going to be a R primary in one seat and I think Ros Lehtinen is in the other who I doubt is going to get involved.

Congratulations to Daniella on this MAJOR endorsement. She deserves it.

Despite what many may think they know, the PBA endorsement is considered to be major in Homestead. It is one of the most important and highly recognized. The PBA is well known for their full support of their candidates and will pull out all legal stops to get Daniella elected. Many in Homestead are chomping at the bits to get involved in this race and they will.

Daniella Levine Carva is a first- class candidate and even Republicans are talking about what a wonderful and capable person she is. She won’t need on-the-job training when elected; she will hit the ground running.

This is a woman who transcends party loyalties because she is known to be smart, politically savvy, trustworthy and fair. In a non-partisan race, competence trumps party loyalty every time.

Daniella is a woman of substance and will serve District 8 at a level of know-how and expertise never seen before. At this point, it is not a matter of whether we want her to win or not. The simple truth is we need her to win.

Flynn lost because he was a bad candidate who did not know what he was doing. So get over that and start working and donating for Daniella.

Sorry too stupid race bating

I hope Daniela did not make the unions any promises, other than to work hard and look out for all the taxpayers.

OK, let's try this. By most accounts, Cava is far more liberal than Sorenson. Might this mean she is generally more supportive of even more subsidized housing for the District which is likely to be placed in Homestead and Deep South Dade rather than more affluent areas in the district such as Palmetto Bay. Again, Ed MacDougall should quit his quest for Congress and join this race as the moderate who best knows the District.

I'd like a 3rd option too. I don't like Bell but don't know Cava. I don't like these way too early endorsements because it's stumping the democratic process from others who may consider running, which I guess is the point. That's a comment on both of these candidates. Voters will need to decide if they can deal with the devil they have or the unknown who may not have the interest of the district at heart. When I say unknown, I don't mean at a county level, I mean at a local level.

"By all accounts" you mean by Lynda Bell supporters. Stop making up stuff based on no information whatsoever.

No one can raise enough money for this race. Bell has squeezed every dollar out of the LBA types and Ed knows it. It is not that early moneywise.

It is Bell raking in the funds from the affordable housing developers. Get your facts straight. By all accounts she is putting one in Palmetto Bay like the affordable housing she put in Cutler Bay. This time she is naming it after her father.

This is going to be a million dollar commission race for a $6K per year job. Makes you wonder on a whole bunch of levels. Both will have their hands on our pockets. One will reward the LBA the other will reward the Unions. Both will be taxpayer funded at either procurement (Bell) or the budget (Cava)! I forgot about the affordable housing in Cutler Bay. I think there's enough affordable housing in Hudstead which will be depressed as long as the low IQ bozo clowns are on the council there!

Lets try this. Notwithstanding all the money has been sucked out of the room a (R) centrist like ed would siphon more votes from Lynda than Daniella.

And yes, putting up big numbers and endorsements early is supposed to scare away wannabes. The problem, it's very hard to do thus rarley done and why this is a story.

So Daniella clearly understands politics for those that pigeonholed her as a "well-known social worker but political neophyte".

Now it gets interesting because the heavy hitters are going to have to decide if they want start hedging their bets. Danielle is not a vindictive person like Bell but everybody knows the playbook, money talks and backing losers against winners is not good on a lobbyist's resumé. Better to sit it out than go with conventional wisdom of bankrolling incumbents.

Bell hates her dead father so dont spread the crap about the naming of another project. He is the root of her hatred of and need to control most men. Her story is he was wealthy but left her mother and a bunch of kids destitute for a younger woman. LB would be a most intersting psychological study.

This race should be sub titled: Corporations versus Unions

These types of races are becoming more common. I think it started with Scott Walker as the real test case.

How about the hundreds of people who donated about $100,000 to Daniella? I would call it citizens (grassroots) vs corporations (the bulk of Bells contributions)

Is that Natacha next to Daniela? She's not aging weli...oooops my bad thats John Rivera. Sorry John its the cataracts.

I WOULD VOTE FOR THE WORKING CLASS OVER THE BIG FAT CT CORPORATIONS ANYDAY OF THE WEEK AND TWICE ON SUNDAY. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I SEE THIS RACE AS GOOD VS EVIL; HONESTY S CORRUPT; OPNE MINDED VS DICTATORSHIP; FOR THE PEPLE VS MY OWN POCKET

Anonymous said...

SORRY FOR THE MISSPELLED WORDS BUT YOU GET THE IDEA AND MY INTENTIONS

Anonymous said...

i agree! Bell=corruption and Daniella= honesty. that by itself causes me to to go with the challenger. i've live in the district for most of my adult life and I've never felt so embarrassed as i have under Lynda Bell; and i don't own a hotel given to me like Bell

Anonymous said...

its so simple and obvious. theres a movement to the likes never seen before. Bell is as good as out as one can state it

Anonymous said...

She just lost my vote. I wont be voting for anyone aligned with John Rivera and the PBA.

Geniusofdespair said...

Look at the whole candidate not one thing. You are being narrow minded. There is no way to win without some kind of support. I am not a fan of Rivera's either but he is not the whole union. These are the men and women who protect us. They are not the great destroyers polluting our water, endangering our wildlife and putting quality of life on the back burner in favor of profit.

Bell is literally giving away the farm(s) with her pro rock mining in Ag Land at the edge of the Everglades and Cava has an uphill battle learning about the district because it is so diverse. I usually will vote the opposite of whoever unions are pushing. I also vote against whoever certain lobbyists are supporting. This is an interesting one. We shall see what the summer brings with these two.

Anonymous said...

It is good to have their support. But you don't want to have their support in name only. Their volunteers must be integrated into election day, early voting, and absentee voting precinct operations.

The unions, especially the police and fire unions, usually withhold support until candidates pledge to vote to increase pay and benefits for union members. Then, if the candidate is elected, the unions stay on top of the newly elected politicians until they vote to increase pay and benefits. That is one big reason public sector employees make 100% to 300% more than private sector employees. That is why municipal governments face financial problems and bankruptcy.

Anonymous said...

The Wall Street Journal ran a story on March 15th detailing that long time public sector employees retire with benefits that exceed private sector retirement benefits by 100% to 200%, often even much more. Think pensions that well exceed last years pay! City of Miami fire union members have retired with $3+ mil packages.

The problem is not that public sector employees have pension plans, the problem is that private sector employees do not. There was a time in the US when pensions were the norm.
