The Beacon Council Story from Frank Nero. By Geniusofdespair

The Miami Herald did an in depth interview with Frank Nero on what went wrong, my favorite part:

The peak of the poor political relationship probably came on October 2012, when Commissioner Lynda Bell publicly said she “was treated very rudely and disrespectfully” during a private meeting with Nero and then-Beacon chair Joe Pallot. Bell accused Nero of tossing papers at her during a heated discussion about her proposal for reworking how the Beacon received its nearly $4 million annual appropriation from Miami-Dade.

Nero denies the Bell claims.

He was vehemently opposed to Genting which Gimenez & the BCC want. Bell is a plain out liar most of the time as she was when she went on record and made a false accusation. The real reason he's out had nothing to do with Bell and everything to do with his vocal opposition to the Genting deal. He stepped on much bigger toes then these political whores which helped ouster him. Bell was just a bit player and the dumbest of them all.

I think balling up paper and tossing it at her nose would have been great sport.

However, the point is, if you are going to have a meeting that is even slightly confrontational, you do it in a more public place. It kinda keeps the tone on a different level.

Of course, Lynda is is the type of chick that you can agree with and if she wanted you to be disagreeable(and it is what she needed), that is spin she would give the world.

She really isn't a nice soul.

Intelligent people don’t believe Lynda Bell’s accusation against Mr. Nero for a minute. Mr. Nero is a gentleman and would no more toss papers to her or at her than the man in the moon.

Where Bell has no credibility, Mr. Nero has more dignity and credibility in his little finger than Lynda Bell and her chief of staff have in their entire bodies combined. This is a man who has served the public well for decades and for this uneducated and inexperienced elected official to accuse this man of distinction of such lack of integrity does not only demean Mr. Nero, it is an insult to Miami Dade County.

Obviously Lynda Bell suffers from delusions of grandeur and in her short time with the County has showered disgrace on Miami Dade County. Trouble and destruction follow Lynda Bell wherever she goes. She believes she can use her well-known typical underhanded trait to get whatever she wants and will go to no ends to destroy those who get in her way. Honor has to be earned, not grabbed at will and used to benefit one’s own agenda.

Now her scandalous imagination has gone to riot as evidenced by her poor showing in this November’s election. Her shameful and disgraceful attempt to use her “power” to buy Homestead by using “other people’s money” should serve as realization that her tenure with the County will be short lived.

Does anyone believe she could carry Homestead in an election?

The quality of the candidates for elected office at all levels has been reduced to the point of giving the voters a choice of voting for the "least worse" of them not the best of them. Because of this or in spite of this trend, the apathy of the eligible voters keeps growing and the quality of our so-called leaders keeps going down the proverbial drain,

Frank Nero is the same guy who refused to acknowledge what his pay package was, and who never felt a need to honor the public records law when it came to the Beacon Council. On several occasions over the years I was rebuffed when I made public records requests regarding the money that the Beacon Council gave to the Miami-Dade Film office, so I'm not going to get all weepy that he's gone.

In fact, I'll go on the record as saying he should have been gone a long time ago. The Beacon Council went through tens of millions of dollars to supposedly promote economic development in Miami-Dade County and as far as I'm concerned did a piss-poor job of it.

And I'm not saying that as an outsider, but as someone who was part of the Beacon Council's film industry committee before Nero even showed up.

beacon NOT a public entity thus is NOT subject to public record request

Beacon took public money, it was funded by the county through the TV cable money to the tune of close to $2 million a year in its heyday. It meets the totally test established in News and Sun Sentinel Company v. Schwab, Twitty & Hauser, Architectural Group Inc.,supra.

They took public money, and then turn around and funded county agency activities with that money. That's what they did for year with the film office.

The Beacon Council has been a failure for decades. Frank Nero should have been fired year s ago. So much tax money wasted.

I admired Nero's vocal opposition to the Genting stampede, while knowing that it would not win him any friends at County Hall.

Frank Nero only did one decent thing. He objected to Genting and gambling.

The Beacon Council has been totally ineffective for more then a decade under Nero. In this article, it does portray him as a victim because of what stupid Lynda Bell did & said. The best thing Nero did was take a stand against Genting. The worst thing the BCC did with the Beacon council is keep it in existence after Nero got the boot. He was over paid and not accountable to the public while taking public funds. The Beacon Council is subsidizing the BCC junkets for "economic development". This incident put a well deserved microscope under another ineffective tax payer drain. Nero is no victim here but the BCC is the worst offender in this case, as usual, to allow the funding without accountability. They need to be self funded, not county funded and no more "sponsoring" of vacations for politicians!

Did anyone check to see if Nero refused to place Jenna on the Beacon Council payroll before the big blow up? Maybe Lynda Bell thought she could replace Nero with daughter Jenna. Bwahahahaha She can't even hold a menial job.

Atlantic City? Bus loads of elderly on fixed incomes? Does anyone with an IQ over 96 want hordes of gamblers being bused in daily? Into the OMNI area? Clogging our highways? Losing their food money?
