LA Fitness Sucks. By Geniusofdespair

LA Fitness Member getting ready to leave an LA Fitness Class
Warren (not his real name) 91,  has belonged to LA Fitness for 40 years. His membership was with Bally's before it was recently bought out by LA Fitness sucks.  Warren can do two things at the club: the stationery bike and senior classes. He had 5 classes he attended with many other seniors each week.

Suddenly without a word, LA Fitness sucks, cancelled 3 of the classes that Warren attended each week. Warren was crushed now left with only 2 classes a week that he could go to. He attempts every movement the teacher makes with legs and arms that won't quite do what he wants. He helps lift his legs with his arms. He is an inspiration to us all to never give up. The 3 classes they cancelled had weight training. He could use the 2 1/2 pound weights and  he did. It was a very good class for him and the rest who attended.

Warren's 5 classes a week are now down to 2 and he has lost weight training.  So unfair.

Let's face it, if you are over 55 LA Fitness doesn't want you. They want to be a young club and LA Fitness discriminates by age. They won't even supply enough chairs for the senior classes (discouraged, some had to stand and soon stopped coming) and the seniors were bringing their own equipment. LA Fitness sucks is blatantly trying to discourage the senior attendees. Is LA Fitness guilty of age discrimination? I think so. They told the class they could not take chairs from elsewhere in the club. There are 12 chairs for the class. The club was sent a letter, pleading for at least two classes back, weeks ago with 40 member signatures which they ignored.

I will take down this post LA Fitness sucks if you give Warren and the other seniors back their 3 classes. Warren deserves more from his club after 40 years of membership. I wrote this column for Warren's 85 year old wife who also attended the 5 classes a week.

So unfair!! I don't understand why LA fitness does not have the Silver Sneakers program that is offered by many other gyms. But even if they don't want that is really awful to cancel classes that are the very reason some joined the gym - and paid for it. He and his wife are troupers and this is very unfair!!!

Yes this sucks, and yes LA Fitness pretty much sucks. But unless there is some legal basis (ie services promised or implied) hen their is no case here and age discrimination would open a pandoras box which could lead to less or more expensive gyms.
Yes LA Fitness should try to satisfy its clients but we can't force private businesses to do what may be unprofitable (maybe some other gym figures it out and benefits from their business). But I repeat LA FITNESS SUCKS!

I belonged to a gym where I was part of silver sneakers. I am 86 and my wife who also was part of the gym is 80. La fitness took over and we were out. They really SUCK.

Of all demographics to mess with, that is the wrong one. It is rapidly increasing, they have money, and time.

Bally's was founded in 1983. It is impossible for this man be a member for 40 years. Check your arithmetic. If he became a member when they were founded, which is unlikely as the original club was in the midwest, he would only have 30 years as a member.

I sympathize with his plight. But don't exaggerate the claim for the sake of the story.

I have the original Jack LaLane paperwork, which was bought out I think Ballys and then LAFitess

For the record, Fitness By Aurora does silver sneakers in coral gables

Warren belonged to another club bought out by Bally's --- he has been a member of clubs that kept being bought out for 40 years.

Okay I got it. Thanks for the clarification.

What do you expect from a for-profit business like LA Fitness? Warren and others like him are not part of their target demographic. LA Fitness is just responding to market forces. They may soon go public. If some people get hurt on their way to a successful IPO, well that's just the way it is. And that just sucks.

If they go public, the old people may kill them. There is a lot of old people money in the stock market. As a matter of fact, it is one of their playgrounds for unearned income.

LA Fitness sucks. My family was enrolled with Ballys for years.

Shortly after the buy-out, my kids martial arts instructor (he had a contract with Ballys and the program was packed with kids) was kicked out of the club - he had to dig trophies and other memorabilia out of the dumpster. The kids helped.

They severely cut the hours for the kids club making it harder for families to go to the club, and increased the cost to boot.

Needless to say, we quit.

LA Fitness sucks.
