It's called Outsider Art, or Art Brut or as GoD says folk art. I've just been to a museum in Paris, near Sacre Couer, that's all Outsider Art. The artists are typically indigent, uneducated in art, sometimes physically disabled, more often than not mentally ill. Most of the artists report they were compelled (usually by spiritual forces) to make the art. You sense both the compulsion and the spirit in the painting shown here. I like it.
Some of the captions on the Folk Art really bring to thought of what Heaven and hell are and souls that live on earth. the fine reading--can't be seen on picture so they might think H & h could not be a locality but a state of thought. And too, souls are not made of dust but Outside Artistic talent wanting to be recognized. Hum-- your call??

I like it. It is colorful and thoughtful. And it speaks.
