UDB Hearing Today and Does Incorporation Breed Corruption? By Geniusofdespair

Kerri Barsh
There is a hearing about the mall in our wellfield that would move the Urban Development Boundary.  The wellfield part is particularly offensive. It is our water supply. Reelection time is approaching, it won't pass. Although I suppose this is the hearing about whether or not to forward it to the DCA. "I just want their professional opinion" the commissioners will say. That gives Commissioners cover. Expect an impassioned speech by Lynda Bell trying to redeem herself of the Don't Fence Me In scandal. Since Carlos Gimenez said he would not support it and the rock miners are against it, I think it is dead. But, it gives them all a chance to make speeches. I am surprised Turnberry hasn't pulled it. They might still, if they are smart.

You will have the opportunity to get me very good pictures at this event.  I would love photos of lobbyists huddled together or talking on their cell phones in the ante-chamber. It is fun to take them. As they see you approach they will start moving away, you can get them to circle the room a few times. Lots of fun.  Please get me some photos attendees. I will post them tomorrow.  Also need a photo of what rock mining lawyer queen Kerri Barsh is wearing. That photo is just because it amuses me. She will be there.  Lobbyists, you can take them of your enemy lobbyists.  I need photos!! Send them to geniusofdespair@yahoo.com

UPDATE ON UDB HEARING 10:30: IT WAS PULLED AS I PREDICTED AND LYNDA BELL WAS ABSENT. PEPE DIAZ OBJECTED TO IT (PROBABLY BECAUSE OF ROCK MINERS) AND JEFFREY BERCOW  AGREED TO PULL IT.

In other news, lets looks at City mayors.
Aventura: Susan Gottlieb is just a total idiot and rude and dismissive to constituents and a Soroka puppet (her city manager).
Miami Beach: Phillip Levine banned the press from some events and does Slapp Suits.
North Miami Beach Former Mayor Myron Rosner: Arrested.
North Miami Mayor Lucie Tondreau: Office was raided in absentee ballot probe.
Doral Mayor: Out of his mind.
Sweetwater Former Mayor: Plead guilty.
Miami Lakes Former Mayor: Arrested
Homestead Former Mayor: Arrested.
Florida City Mayor: No one is talking.
Medley Mayor: Doesn't have a clue.

To me, this could possibly be a case AGAINST incorporation. Although, maybe Katherine Fernandez Rundle and the Ethics Commission only have the balls to go after mayors, sparing commissioners.  I know a lot of ethics decisions that give commissioners cover for bad behavior.

I can't print things like that without proof of something.

G.o.D makes a good point. EVeryone loves the idea that big government can be broken down into smaller pieces and better serve people. Incorporation is a way to break down Miami Dade County. Yes, the county commission is rife with self-dealers like Lynda Bell. And she is only the latest incarnation of a long line of self dealers. But the record at the smaller municipal level is arguably even worse. Look at the list G.o.D. assembled just from memory. HS!

Look to South Miami and Palmetto Bay. How many vindictive ethics complaints have these city council members and mayors filed against each other.

Don't forget that the current mayors for both Palmetto Bay and Doral have walked out of ongoing commission meetings when things have not gone their way.

Sorry, I do hate to get personal, but does anyone else think that the attorney pictured in this story looks like Mic Jagger in a dress? Please tell me that it is just a bad photo. I am trying to see some humor here, not be mean, though it certainly sounds mean.

You may also make a slight case for Carly Simon.

Bell and her bff Zapata were absent. Two peas in a pod except one is a hillbilly.

Owners of land can double their money by changing the zoning. Once they allow one property the rest can join in the battle. The people in local government have no backbone, the system is broken.

Barsh looks like a circus clown.

A clown with a gut.

She has no gut, just bad posture.

Barsh does have a unique style, but she's actually a really nice and hard working person, and surprisingly soft-spoken. She just works for the wrong people.

Another shuck and jive at county hall.

I believe annexation breeds corruption and here's why. Landowners then develop their properties for a campaign donation to city officials while the annexing city puts in the infrastructure and that is where the payoffs occur. Those government contracts are full of change orders, payoffs and bribes.
The City of Sweetwater is the poster child for infrastructure projects headed by a Marono relative.

FBI, FBI, FBI.

As to the annexations stuff, Homestead wins top billing along with Richard Alger and the Williams family. The CDD's where the homeowners pay for he infrastructure cost were well used by Steve Shiver. So, while Broward property values double, Homestead will remain depressed due to no jobs and a ton of vacant houses.

As to the Incorporation issue Genius, I look at it another way. The BCC has found a way to insulate themselves with so many layers around them, it's very difficult to prosecute them. Today is a prime example of why we should have a government close to the people, locally. At least we can see when we have local corruption, they're hauled away, not protected by KFR like she does with the BCC. I'd rather have a corrupt pol in jail locally then 13 BCC members untouchable and unaccountable to the community, spending and wasting billions in tax dollars with zero improvements in the unincorporated areas and zero accountability to the people in those areas.

Miriam Marquez is gone? It was a total shock to see the Herald (Doral Herald?) actually write and publish an editorial that opposed a stupid mall. Wow. New staff?

There's lots of people in the Grove that would like to get away from the city of Miami. Why? The votes from Coconut Grove, when tallied, were against the development of our waterfront. The rest of Miami decided "for" it. So, those voters decided what was best for us, with the help of promos by Sarnoff and Regalado paid for by our tax dollars. Most of those voters will never visit our waterfront and won't be eating at the high-priced restaurants planned. The average voter will never be able to afford the marina. They just voted to whatever Papa Regalado told them to vote for. Also, thank you to the Miami Herald editorial board for recommending a lease on that waterfront for the next 80 years. That really helped the cause and made soooo much sense, not!

As with anything, its not about the size, its about how its used!!!

The grove did not need a bayside mess.... Sarnoff seems to have his hand into anything requires building. When does he have time to lawyer?

My husband is an attorney and he really has no use for him and now I see why.
