Oh those Soffer's, trying to move the Urban Development Boundary. By Geniusofdespair

Jeff Soffer and new wife Model Elle McPherson -  we need more money

Okay guys (I mean Turnberry Corp./Soffers) when I say guys) you have the Aventura Mall, you have the Billions of dollars, you have the Fontainebleau, you have yachts, beautiful mansions and private planes, and in this case a spectacular wife, why do you need to move the Urban Development Boundary? Have some pity on us regular folks.

It was in the paper today the meeting is scheduled November 20th. Your land is in the the Northwest Wellfield Protection Area. Come on Soffer family, especially Don Soffer - the savvy one. Be good neighbors. Abandon this application. Tell your lobbyists Alexander Heckler, Jeffrey Bercow, Michael Marrero, Michael Radell, Edward Swakon, Cathy Sweetapple, Oscar Braynon II (SHAME ON YOU OSCAR -- FOR SHAME), Roosevelt Bradley (rumored to be hired for Audrey Edmonson) and the rest to take a hike. Tell all these friggin' lobbyists that the great Aventura Mall doesn't need the bad publicity right now before Christmas. Picket signs in front of a mall, what if that happened? That is very unsightly. Tell them you have enough and don't want to be greedy. Do this for the people not the profit. Be good people. We need more good people. You have a heart for dogs with your shelter, now have a heart for us. I love your mall, I am there every week buying crap I don't need. Do it for me! Abandon this application.

It looks like empty land from the aerial photo..... What's the big deal?

These sort of people don't get it. They don't drink the water here, and if it becomes too nasty to bathe in, they will simply move to a community with a babbling brook.

With such a fine list of people whispering in the commissioners ears, the developers probably wouldnt hear other people reminding them that their life legacy could be the destruction of south Florida's water supply and the Everglades.

I don't need to shop at aventura mall this year.... Anywhere else to knock off my list?

Please Soffer family don't go on with this.

Don- don't so it. Also a shopper.

I'm not a shopper at Aventura, but I vote, and if my Commissioner (Suarez) votes for this, you'll be sure my vote (and money) will go to whoever is running against him.

This is such an egregious application! Don't threaten our water supply to benefit one developer!!

How about we give out fliers Black Friday ? I will do it all day. The mall that threatens our drinking water!

I will boycott my favorite store and cancel my credit card: Bloomingdales! I will help you guys.

Youbetcha':

While I think perhaps you were being sarcastic in your comment, what is your definition of "empty land"? Land that doesn't have buildings on it? Well, that land serves to recharge our aquifer. Once you cover open land with pavement, it is no longer a permeable surface, and all the water that would have seeped into our aquifer for the benefit of our environment and our water supply now runs into drains and then into canals to be dumped out to sea.

It's also got a bunch of wetlands on the property. And you don't have to care about the environment to want to protect wetlands. They clean our water, provide nursery habitat for wildlife (you need this if you want to eat fish!), and again, recharge our aquifer.

The more we pave over our open spaces, the more we threaten our water. And this property isn't just any open space -- it lies on top of the Northwest Wellfield, which is the largest uncontaminated source of drinking water for Miami-Dade County. Pollution runoff and toxic material associated with this development can contaminate this critical drinking water source.

I meant to say Don- don't do it! I will cancel Macy's and Bloomingdales and write them a letter telling them why.

Hold the Line - Protect the Everglades & Boycott Bloomingdales! This development application is one of the most egregious money grabs and attacks on the environment imaginable. Shame on you Soffers - there is time to repent & withdraw your application.

You don't have to boycott the stores cancel your credit cArds and tell them why.

The Everglades needs to be protected.

Lifestyles of the rich and famous must mean that the rules do not apply to them. The UDB should be kept in place. Wealthy connected people with a battery of lobbyists and lawyers should have some civic responsibility. I hope the application is withdrawn.

Are we even considering ever moving the UDB again...lets keep people out of harms way. It does not take a rocket scientist to realise we can not build any farther west...these will be the first places to inundate because of sea-level rise. Lets make this city great uphold the comprehensive masterplan...and PLEASE BUILD MORE PUBLIC TRANSIT...NO MORE ROADS!!!!

Put together some sort of JPG an I'll run it on my site, an I'll join you passing out flyers. Better yet Biscayne Boulevard Red Lights with signs!

I grew up in Aventura and have shipped there for years: NOT ANYMORE!!!
This application is outrageous: There is no clear need demonstrated by the Turnberry team that justifies moving the UDB to accommodate this project ( and what's even worse is that they manipulate and misuse data!? The 'RED' report's area of study is inside the UDB, and it's in the area between the Dolphin Mall and Mall of the Americas; nowhere in the report does it say that we need to look outside the UDB to create more Recreation and Entertainment Destinations. Bercaw, get your facts straight.)

What's even worse than manipulating data to get your way? MANIPULATING POLICY PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT THE COUNTY's LARGEST SOURCE OF POTABLE WATER (the Northwest Wellfield) to get your way. We cannot allow applicants to ask the County to modify a Policy to exempt their application area from protecting the wellfield.

Sorry, my water supply comes first. I rather have WATER than a MALL...

HOLD THE LINE, invest in Smart Growth.

Soffer, withdraw your application.

Sincerely,

Ex-shopper at Aventura Mall

Greedy sh*ts. Apparently they didn't get the memo that happiness stays flat after an income of about $75,000/year...

Just what we need, a mall in our well field. Bad enough we have rock miners all around there. What is Ed Swakon going to justify it. Whores the whole lot of them.

Aventura Mall off the list. Got it. I'll spread the word.

Youbetcha' said...

Of course, I know what that land is.... I am more than familiar with it ... But if you look at the Florida map from space, you will see the the glades looks like ....hmmmmm ...swamp land that needs fill.

I heard Soffer was going to get indicted for construction and mortgage fraud scams he pulled in Los Vegas? When will will we see him in handcuffs?

All this while North Miami Beach wants to destroy Greynolds Park by allowing three 10-15 story buildings next to it. Will someone please get off your dead butts and help stop the stampede of growth. Greynolds Park needs to be saved from this as the buildings haven't started to go up yet.

People in N. Miami need to rise up to protect Greynalds Park. Sally Heymann?
