The losing contingent included Sen. Marco Rubio, who has cemented his status as a prancing lapdog for the Tea Party crazies. He is cleverly positioning himself to fill the intellectual void left by Michelle Bachmann, who’s retiring from the House. - Carl Hiaasen
Tea Party Favorite Marco Rubio |
Read The whole column, Hiaasen compares congress to toenail fungus among other things:
The same poll showed that 53 percent of those surveyed held hemorrhoids in higher esteem than Congress, although there was a partisan gap. Democrats and independents overwhelmingly said Congress was worse than hemorrhoids, while GOP voters gave Congress a slight edge.

Carl is soo correct! As the country exhales from the costly $25 billion dollar hissy-fit from republicans, we brace for hissy-fit number two in a few months that will cost even more. Rubio was a big mistake that Floridians must correct at the next senatorial election. Because their terms are six years, we are forced to endure the embarrassment he brings to the state.
Marco Rubio is a novice. Unfortunately, novices can cause us harm.
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better." ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

The good thing about knowledge is that once acquired it changes one's viewpoint. But some people don't know that they don't know, are unwilling to listen to those who do, and as a result of that we have lost $25 billion in GNP and will be looking at losing a lot more with the next bout of silliness.
The failure of GOP was not to harken to the "good enough for me then good enough for thee" argument.
It would have been better to postpone the damn thing and fix it before launching it -- better for the Democrat party that is. This opera is far from being over.
