County Commissioner Jean Monestime Presents the Urban Environment Orchid Award to Nadine Patrice. By Geniusofdespair

Besides congratulating Nadine Patrice for her award, the Urban Environment League want to congratulate Commissioner Jean Monestime for his appointment as Chair of a Florida Association of Counties Committee. Here is a video of Commissioner Monestime presenting the award:

The Orchid Award Bestowed June 19th Stated: Nadine Patrice is the Executive Director and Founder of Operation Green Leaves, an organization founded in 1991 in response to Jacques Cousteau’s video “Haiti: Water of Sorrow,” showing ecological and environmental damage from centuries of deforestation in Haiti. Since then, Nadine has worked tirelessly to raise funds for seedlings, seeds and trees to provide to partners in Haitian communities. After the 2010 earthquake, Nadine organized state-side non-profits and communities on the island to respond to the crisis. She also works in South Florida’s communities to preserve and increase our canopy. Operation Green Leave organizes and participates with others in tree planting activities, neighborhood beautification projects and beach clean-ups. Nadine is a very special “Ambassador for Trees,” reminding South Florida and Haiti that we are all connected.

Enough about Haiti. Haiti has been in chaos for over 230 years. Local politicians like Monestime should be spending their time trying to solve local problems. Once all the local problems have been solved then local political hacks can look offshore.

Monestine is the Chair of something? Isn't this his first publicly elected position ever and so what experience does he have to be Chair of anything? Am I missing something?

My God you are rude.

There is nothing rude about expecting elected officials to use intelligence and common sense to serve their (local) constituents. There is nothing rude about expecting elected officials to be well qualified to solve problems and to handle billion dollar budgets. We expect and we deserve excellence. If elected officials are only running for office to con an easy pay check and free foreign trips out of the taxpayers they should stay in the private sector.

Commissioner Monestime has been recognized by his statewide colleagues at the Florida Association of Counties for his thoughtful and deliberate approach to resolving local issues impacting our counties. He was appointed as Chair of the Growth Management, Planning & Agriculture Committee.

Commissioner Monestime is doing more to stop urban development boundary expansions than any elected official in recent memory. His push to have infrastructure put in place in the urban corridors will have a real impact on stopping UDB expansion. He deserves our support.

Here-here! Congratulations to Nadine for working tirelessly to educate us on the importance of trees to both South Florida and Haiti.

Well deserved recognition.

Haitians are in the process of killing perhaps 100 majestic oak trees on NE 62nd Street and NE 2nd Avenue. Sveral of the oak trees are over 100 years old. They want more customer parking. Maybe Nadine can save some trees in Miami?
