Rolling Stone: "Goodbye, Miami" ... by gimleteye

From Rolling Stone Magazine
Eye on Miami has company. The national magazine, Rolling Stone publishes "Goodbye, Miami", an in-depth report on Miami's future under inevitable conditions of sea level rise.

Both Miami-Dade and the federal environmental agency, the US EPA, recently signed off on a sewage reconstruction plan that omits sea level rise from its considerations.

In a recent climate change compact, mayors of 50 cities in the United States signed an agreement to advance programs and policies to mitigate against climate change impacts. But not M-D Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

And Marco Rubio, US Senator whose prospects for a national presidential run are hyped by the press?

Exactly one year ago -- kismet! -- Eye on Miami blogged, "Marco Rubio will not meet with climate change scientists", quoting an invitation by Dr. Harold Wanless, chair of the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Miami, for Senator Rubio to meet with scientists. Rubio has STILL NOT MET WITH CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENTISTS.

Rubio, tied to the the Jeb! Bush branch of climate change denial -- is dismissive. Why do we keep electing these officials to office?

Rubio has no future on the national stage ... the sooner the punditry picks it up, the better for all of us in Florida.

I don't want to be here until the end when everything floats away. The politicians & lobbyists are having the last laugh with our tax dollars while us little people scramble to get out of this hell hole!

This article is so distributing and so true. Even if one doesn't want to believe in "climate change", it's clear, sea level rise is already here. The cause and effect are almost irrelevant to our coastal areas and the sub normals at FPL as well.

There's so much they mentioned including the stupid port tunnel, this was just a very hard read like having cold water splashed in the face after a hot shower.

Tell me something I don't know, I guess, but now the rest of the country or at least the readers of rolling stone get to point and laugh even louder at us.

I have to admit, to read this article I had to use my phone. On a regular computer I could not enlarge it enough. If you have an IPad use that. I had to hit the little box at the bottom as well.

After reading it, all my health problems seemed insignificant. This article opened my eyes to the threat to Florida in layman terms.. Do not, under any circumstances, miss reading it. Send it to everyone you know. All I can say, now I see why Gimleteye writes about this over and over.

I found it easy to read after clicking the download button. Then you can increase the font to whatever size suits you,or save as a pdf to forward to others.

In our democracy, we voters get what we desire. A majority of Floridians have elected clowns who rely on Genesis for scientific insight. This can change quickly, but when will the change occur? If only there was a way to shift the losses onto the clowns who denied reality.

Good luck to Babyboomers have their retirement nest egg as their paid off long term residence.

Detroit and Cleveland are going to look pretty inviting by 2050.

People in Miami just need to purchase second story condominiums and sell their vehicles. Take a water taxi.

It's always interesting when national publication examines a local issue like this.

But this ain't breaking news.

As I point out on my blog, essentially the same story was reported by the Herald back in March and by Biscayne Times last year.

I live on the tail end of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge. I will begin calling it the Atlantis Coastal Ridge. Im currently 12 feet above sea level, but when the sea water rises over Miami's lower regions, I'll have water front property in "Redland Isles" or "Islas De Terra Roja"

Mayors Gimenez and Regalado have no clue. No long range thinking...

From all those Scientists over at Rolling Stone Magazine?

Everyone loves to quote professors from colleges. because Lord knows, none of them are prone to left-leaning hyperbole.

Any Eye on Miami readers live near Alton and West Avenues? Miami Beach residents and visitors experience sea level rise during and after every heavy rain. Anyone notice the reductions in the width of the beaches?

Why would Mayor Gimenez even bother to read from the Book of Genesis...he thinks he knows more than God. He has already made up his mind about Climate Change and declared it to be "cyclical" - just like elections. Let's dump him on the next cycle.

Carlos Gimenez is just another self-serving politician out for his 3rd or 4th pension. Climate Change? See Michael Bloomberg's comments.
