Marco Rubio Opening a Can of Worms? By Geniusofdespair

Do you really want to go there Marco...

According to the Miami Herald:

Rubio said he had issues with the way some Cubans are abusing the system.

“I don’t criticize anyone who wants to go visit their mom or dad or their dying brother or sister in Cuba,” he said. “But I am telling you it gets very difficult to justify someone’s status as an exile and refugee when a year and a half after they get here they are flying back to that country over and over again.”

More than 1 million Cubans have received U.S. residency since the law was enacted in 1966. But in recent years, it has come under increasing scrutiny, over questions of whether Cubans are leaving for economic reasons rather than political.

Immigrant-rights groups say it unfairly grants special status to Cubans, who get access to federal benefits the immigration overhaul would deny to millions of others.

Stop wet foot dry foot

Hardline Cuban-Americans can't stand the Cubans who travel back and forth. They undermine the hardliner's unending pronouncements that things are intolerable on the island.

Marco Rubio will never touch the wet foot/dry foot provisions of the Cuban Adjustment Act but you can bet your bottom dollar that he will do everything he can to restrict Cubans from traveling back to the island.

Kind of like the way Castro restricts them from leaving the island.

The apple does not fall far from the tree.

Cubans are coming here and in three months they have homes, jobs, and money from our government. We have veterans including Cubans that have been here for years with no homes and no jobs. There is something seriously wrong with this unfairness. People have to stand in line to become Americans and in less than a year they are flying back and forth to a communist island.
MARCO RUBIO WHY NOT IN ALL THIS IMMIGRATION TALK LETS TALK REPEALING THE CUBAN ADJUSTMENT ACT, NOW THATS TREATING EVERYONE AMERICAN!!

If he is critical of it, the rest of us would be more than happy to do away with it.

The rest of the Hispanic community does not like Cubans getting special treatment. As long as this goes on, Rubio can protest all he wants but he will never become President.

It´s really simple. Choose A or B, but you can´t have both:

A. Cubans feel persecuted in Cuba and are granted assylum in the US. They are in fact given preference over others from all around the world seeking entry into the US. Obviously this is a special situation. They do not travel back to Cuba. (They felt persecuted, remember?)

... and to Lil Fidels: this is NOT the opinion of a "hard-line Cuban American". This is the opinion of a son of Eastern-European immigrants.

B. Cubans emigrating to the US wish to travel back and forth between the two countries. Fine. But they do not receive any preference and must stand in line like everyone else from around the world wishing to live in the US.

How about
C. They come to US open up a "clinic", get into a few "accidents" and collect some pip cheese, while operating a couple of grow houses then run back to Cuba before they get indicted.

To Anon pointing out A or B:

Perfectly summarized. Rubio is right. If you travel back to Cuba, you are not in need of special treatment... GO TO THE END OF THE LINE! And you lose your Permanent Resident Status!
