A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words. By Geniusofdespair

This is Bobby Kennedy talking to Joe McCarthy.  (That is not McCarthy holding the cigar.) Look at Bobby Kennedy's folded hands. Try folding your own hands and see how awkward this position is -- like that left pinkie at that angle. The hands reflect the escalating, difficult relationship.

Thank the news media for stopping McCarthy. Too bad they can't stop some of the idiots we have now.

McCarthy: "The issue between the Republicans and Democrats is clearly drawn. It has been deliberately drawn by those who have been in charge of twenty years of treason. Not the hard fact is...the hard fact is that those who wear the label...those who wear the label "Democrat" wear it with the stain of a historic betrayal."

Sounds like it could be said by a baker's dozen of our current Congressional members.

Talk about repeating history. That quote could be attributed to a number of Republicans I can think of.

Unfortunately, Bobby Kennedy was Joe McCarthy's anti-Communism acolyte and was at his side for 6 months during much the HUAC nonsense. He redeemed himself later in life, but had he stayed with McCarthy, it would have permanently stained his career and reputation.

Who are the "idiots we have now" that you want to stop? Obama? Holder?

Serioulsy? The Kennedy's loved McCarthy - there was no difficulty in this relationship when McCarthy was at the peak of his powers. Don't whitewash history - that was either disingenuous on your part or research failure.

McCarthy dated two sisters of Robert.
Robert was on McCarthy's investigatory committee but after a few months he resigned due to disagreements with McCarthy and Cohn.

Maybe this photo was at the time of the rift taking form. It is certainly a later photo of Robert.
