Rebeca Sosa: Why the special treatment for Lynda Bell? By Geniusofdespair

Chair and Vice Chair or is it a case of Co-Chairs?
The County Commission Chair, since Chair Carey-Schuler created the Committee System for Miami Dade County, has always been the big cheese. Not so now, it appears to be wine and cheese with this administration.

Committee Chairmanships were the next best thing for a County Commissioner to get (after Chairmanship of the whole Commission). Ruling a Committee was sought after by the remaining Commissioners. Also, one Commissioner got to be the Vice Chair of the Commission instead of getting a Commission Chairmanship. There were never enough Chairmanships to go around because there weren't as many Committees as Commissioners. You could tell the favorites of the Chair by what Committee a Commissioner got to be Chairman of. The Committee assignments were done weeks after the election of the Chair and Vice Chair.

Well, this time around, not only did Lynda Bell get the Chairmanship of one of the most powerful Committees, Economic Development and Port of Miami Committee, she also got to be the Vice Chair of the County Commission. I think she is the first Commissioner to have both. Why did Sosa ALSO give her a Committee Chairmanship when she was already Vice Chair is the big question? From the news releases from Bell's office, you would think she is the most powerful person on the Commission, and I am beginning to think she is. She sure gets those quotes in the newspapers.

Did you hear much about some of the other County Commission Vice Chairs like Audrey Edmonson, Katy Sorenson and Pepe Diaz? It was pretty much ceremonial with them, I can't even remember all the Vice Chairs because they never made a big deal of being Vice Chair except they got the gavel when the Chair was away. I keep calling Lynda the Co-Chair in error because that is what she acts like: Rebeca Sosa's equal.  You can't have two queens on the throne.

Thinkin' the same thing. Who is this woman?

Sosa made a very stupid mistake. She should correct it sooner rather than later. While I don't believe she can remove her from anything, Sosa's bad decision with Bell will reflect back on her & anyone on the commission who supports Bell or her crazy resolutions. On the upside, because I'm no fan of anti everything real Rubio, Sosa is his biggest cheerleader in Miami Dade and hopefully this will somehow reflect back on Rubio. How the nations CPAC think he's all that is the same way I look at Bell locally, just wait until you get to know what they're really about! 2014 and/or a few ethic violations can't come soon enough in regard to Bell. Sosa will pay for this one way or the other. I happen to like Sosa and all she did to try to stop the AB fraud. When she nominated Bell because I don't really follow the commission that closely I couldn't believe it. There's much behind the scenes on this so if someone has the scoop, let us know!

How do you propose she "correct her stupid mistake."

Not voting to support her stuff & getting the majority of the BCC to do the same. Defuse her from within.

No surprises here. This is your local Republican power structure at work. Sosa has to play or they'll make her pay.

The last comment is close to the mark. Sosa wants to be a player in the GOP firmament. She wears her association and history with Marquito like a flag lapel button. She's gambling that if she demonstrates she is a loyal soldier to GOP political soldiers of fortune, she will be in line for something big when Marquito moves up the food chain. Someone had to step into the vacuum left by the former county commissioner/ cudgel the one you call VNS -- vile Natacha Seijas. It's a distasteful role to someone like Sosa, but she wasn't going to stand in the way. More likely, she is thankful that Bell is there to deflect attention away from the Latin thing. When the shit gets heavy, they will come down on Bell like they did with the square grouper people. I mean the 8.5 square mile people.

Rebeca Sosa is no longer in charge of the BCC. In order to get her chairmanship back she is going to have too show the citizens of Miami Dade County some leadership by controlling her vice chair that she nominated. Good Luck Sosa.

Next Bell will go after Gimenez and begin to control his strong mayor decisions.

You have no idea what kind of colleague you have on your hand.
All of you need to start showing us your leadership against Lynda Bell.
She is a train wreck on a collision with all of you.

Bell was supported and placed as District 8 Commissioner for a clear purpose.

There is an analogy between Steve Shiver and Lynda Bell. Both were Homestead Mayors. Shiver was hired by Alex Pinelas to facilitate the ill-fated HABDI deal. Bell was pushed by the Seijas crowd to destroy environmental oversight and to facilitate development in South Dade, e.g., trash dump, MDX expressway, etc.

Shiver was ousted when Katy Sorenson, South Dade's Guardian Angel, took him on and couldn't deliver the HABDI deal. Bell will be ousted by the 2014 election or recall.

Pinellas, the Seijas crowd, and developers didn't do their homework to know that both Shiver and Bell were neither competent nor equipped to handle the dirty work. What's worse, Bell's behavior and demeanor has now become an issue which the public will not ignore. It's difficult to do someone else's dirty work when everyone is watching.

Bell's clock is ticking. When the developers realize she can't deliver it's ADIOS.

The post above is so full of chronological failure it is bizarre. Consequently, the theories are outright fantasy. Bell won because Flinn was a lazy creep. South Dade's Guardian Angel had nothing to do with Shiver's departure. Find some facts before posting nonsense.

Lynda, stop posting here.

Flinn was a great Mayor as opposed to Lynda. I have lived under both of their governments and Flinn left Palmetto Bay in good shape unlike Lynda and Shriver.

Sosa nor any politician should link themselves too closely with any other politician. Given the fact that so many politicians are now in jail or headed to jail, or regarded at lower confidence or approval levels, it is not wise to link yourselves too closely to anyone. Each tub needs to be able to sit on its own bottom. Don't allow others to get you in trouble because they are dishonest, greedy, and jail-prone. Don't make unwise decisions because other politicians want you to do their bidding. Your decisions should be based on your own deliberations on issues and what you think is right, because in the final analysis, you alone will be held to account for your actions, no one else. You alone will be spending time in jail, no one can do your time for you even through they may have got you into the mess. They will have to worry about doing their own time in jail.

This will be a wait and see with Sosa and she doesn't have much time. She can choose to leave a legacy for all the people of the County or that of the extreme right. Bell was a horrible mistake for the county. Sosa didn't have to go down that road. So, going forward, she may want to distance herself to save her own political career. This county is moving further to the left the further to the right this commission goes. It doesn't take a poll to figure it out; all it takes looking at the polling results from 2012. A winning political platform is inclusive which is why the GOP lost the presidential race. This will and has trickled down at local levels as well. I doubt some of the GOP who were re elected with prevail again in 2014. Let 2012 be a clear warning to all politicians in 2014. Voters are mad. And, I should note here, I am a republican, though not a very Tea Party one and don't like where the party is going.

Honey Boo Boo Bell: Tick, tick, tick...

I'm just waiting for "Honey Boo-Boo" Bell to break out the Confederate flag at Commission Meeting and then claim, she didn't see it. At least Vile's neck was never red!
