Jim Defede Asks Hard Questions on Dolphins Corporate Welfare. By Geniusofdespair

Loved Facing South Florida's Jim DeFede interview this morning with Mike Dee from the Marlin's (well that is embarrassing, what was I thinking?) and Rodney Barreto (lobbyist and Superbowl Committee shill) . This video is just of one question Jim DeFede asked -  about why only Miami Dade County would be contributing toward the Dolphin stadium upgrades and not Broward.  What a lame answer. Dee said he would REQUEST that all the activities that were in Broward last Superbowl be centered in Miami Dade County.  Sounds like bullshit to me "REQUEST". We pay and Broward benefits. All the arguments were lame. DeFede hammered Dee on why the team owner isn't supporting a referendum. Out of time he says, DeFede didn't let up.

DeFede also has a clip with Norman Braman giving his argument against the rquested tax financing. He made some good points, one billionaire to another.

After watching the show and hearing that Marlins Spokesman Mike Dee say they wanted taxpayer money to do upgrades to the stadium's lighting, etc. I began to think about poor Macy's. Why should they have to pay to fix their lighting, their elevators etc.  They benefit the community.  What would the County Commission do if Macy's held Miami hostage and said they would leave the community if we didn't pay for their upgrades? Where does it stop?

The whole show is a half hour. Jim DeFede is hard hitting. Watch the WHOLE show.

This push for pubic financing is unholy. The county commission shouldn't even entertain the push. They should hold referendum on it, nothing else.

New lighting(HD), escalators, more close to the field seating are direct costs that the owners of the stadium should be paying for as a cost of doing business. Why should public financing even be involved in the discussion?

What they didn't say but were thinking: we didn't ask Broward commissioners for funding because they aren't as pliable as Miami Dade county commissioners. My fellow Hispanics on the Commission, don't do this to our community.

You commissioners can save face with the lobbyists who fund you by putting the issue to a vote. A bed tax is a tax. No taxes for corporate welfare ever again. Didn't we learn from the Marlins fiasco?

Public Participation! Yes!

The reason Broward is not paying for anything is because they are not BOUGHT by lobbyists like Miami_Dade Commissioners....they love the limelight so much they want to rub elbows with "celebrities" and "athletes" to make them feel cool---the answer shoud be NO!!!!!! end of story....and stop wasting time cranking everyone up....also rick scott is verl close friends with dolphins people....they were very big contributors to his campaign ...so look out for the connections to tally.....

No to corporate welfare. It so happens that the owner of Dolphin Stadium/Sun Life Stadium is a BILLIONAIRE. Steve Ross can pay for renovations more easily than any taxpayer in Miami-Dade County. Aren't the Dolphins already getting tax subsidies?

The Broward Bed Tax is 5%; the Dade Bed Tax is 6%. Increase it to 7%, and that "request" will be conveniently ignored. Broward will be laughing all the way to the bank.

We have business people who are vultures preying on public funds through pitiful little elected officials who are eagerly looking for a "fish sandwich". Broward has jails full of elected officials doing time for bribery. We need to follow the money and see where the playoffs are.

The 5-Year Plan to renovate historical Wrigley Field calls for no public financing. None.

Thank god for Jim Defede. A hard hitting journalist not afraid to take on the corporate thieves and politicians who run this town. The Dolphins asking for this subsidy is Marlins Stadium redux, another complete and absolute horror show, and we the taxpayers and citizens should make sure it does not happen.
