Dolphins Stadium Funding Hearing. By Geniusofdespair

The County Commission starts the ball rolling on Marlins Dolphins stadium funding hearing:

From the discussion: Bovo no. Moss wants to hear more. Heyman BIG yes. Jordan BIG yes. Bell will be a yes. Stupid woman, okay to fleece the tourists not the taxpayers.

Audrey Edmonson, she sounds like a yes. Mayor a yes. Monestime said two words and I know it is a YES. Pepe Diaz is big yes so is Juan Zapata. Yes for Barreiro Slam dunk. Sosa said why doesn't Broward have to pay. Rebeca, they are not that stupid, they want no part of this funding, they said no already. Barbara Jordan is talking -- she is saying that even the blogs are in favor of this deal...is she crazy?

So far, Steve Bovo is the only one who made sense. I taped his presentation, see below, in the entirety as he was on target.

Steve Bovo the hero? Looks like it on this issue. Watch him, he was the only one worth watching. I don't know who voted NO besides Bovo, but it passed. Apparently there were 4 NO votes: Steve Bovo, Rebeca Sosa, Xavier Suarez and Javier Souto. Thanks all.

The Video.

THE TEAM OWNER IS A MULTI-BILLIONAIRE COMMISSIONERS!!!

If you watched you could have seen the power of Ron Book at work, all his arguments spread around to the commissioners.

Incredible. How could more commissioners not see the facts? The owner of the Dolphins, who also owns the stadium, is a BILLIONAIRE. Steve Ross can afford to pay to renovate his own property. No dummy Steve Ross. He knows he can get at least seven County commissioners to vote to force the taxpayers and residents to pay to improve his private property.

the State of Florida should do away with " THE STATE TO GRANT A STATE SALES TAX REBATE FROM THE SALE OF GOODS AND SERVICES AT SUN LIFE STADIUM IN ORDER TO FUND A PORTION OF THE COSTS EXPENDED FOR THE UPGRADE AND MODERNIZATION OF SUN LIFE STADIUM"

What is Steve Ross really putting up for the renovation?
The NFL might also contribute to the work, does that count as Steve Ross's contribution?
This whole debate should never even be taking place, but some Miami Dade Commissioners are influenced to support things that do not benefit the public.

I watched the session and while Bovo had excellent points the Miami Dade bed tax is very low compared to other city's.
All other Florida sports teams get the sales tax rebate except the Dolphins. Now I agree that the Dolphins tax revenue rebate shortfall will have to be made up at the state level I do not see how Gimenez will allow any ad valorem or general fund dollars to go for this.
He said it will not happen so why are people saying this is the Marlins all over again, it clearly is not?
This is a complaint against nothing at this point, after all it is just a resolution to urge the legislature to let Miami Dade set their own bed tax and rebate sales tax on items sold at the stadium.

It is the nose under the camels tent.

Still waiting for Broward to pony up for this "great" idea.

We need to find out how much was paid for each vote.

As someone who is running for public office presently, I cannot believe our elected officials are even considering this proposal without asking for a complete revision of the terms involved. 3 must haves or NO DEAL:

#1) Broward should be chipping in 50% percent of any monies involved in this deal as they have and will continue to benefit as well.

#2) there should be a public vote regardless of where you stand on this issue.VOTERS DECIDE

#3) If this truly is a partnership between the Dolphins and the county then we need to be paid back for our investment in Mr Ross's asset. There should be a clause which states that once the Dolphins are sold or no longer in Mr Ross's control( INCLUDING HANDING OVER THE TEAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER) the city will be paid back the $200 million (PLUS PERCENTAGE CHANGE BETWEEN INCREASE OF DOLPHINS IN MARKET VALUE IN 2013 VERSUS FUTURE SELL DATE MARKET VALUE)it lent Mr Ross .Mr Ross is no spring chicken and that is a near term payback date for taxpayers.

Its a win -win situation. The Dolphins appreciate in market value due to new refurbished stadium and local businesses and County will be happy with Super Bowl as well as soccer revenue generated in the local economy .Furthermore county taxpayers will assured that the monies will be returned to the county in due time with a return on investment. Isn't great to be a true "partner" instead of a "sucker"???

I agree 110%. Although I can see Mr Ross spending long hours in Zach Tomas's hyperbaric chamber so he can live to 105 years old.

I agree with Mr Dominguez, what's to say that the owner dumps all the players and sells the team and stadium for a huge profit in the near term and we are left holding the bag?

It is sort of like watching a predator, a child molester raping a child in full public view and the County Commission approving the act, and there is nothing you can do. . .

According to Forbes Dolphins are worth 1.06 billion. They have 380 million worth of debt. They don't need public help! Look at our sewer system. Who the hell is going to pay for that debacle?

Stephen Ross is 72 years old. I like the idea. Miami Dade Commissioners are too dumb to think outside the box.

Miami Dade County already has invested a ton of money into the stadium. Who paid for and maintains the highways, overpasses, sewer, water, electrical, airports, etc... Without these investments the owners would have a stadium sitting out in the middle of a field. You own it you pay for it. We have done our part already.

Welfare for billionaires. Natch.

I am actually proud of Steve Bovo, my commissioner. This is his first major policy move since he has been there for almost two years. Let's see more of this, Mr. Bovo.

Don't fool yourselves, Bovo is not that smart. His friend Braman probably wrote the speech and told him how to vote. He doesn't know how to do it any other way.
