Pepe Diaz Does a Good Thing? By Geniusofdespair

This Ordinance sponsored by County Commissioner Pepe Diaz will be heard in Committee on December 12th:

ORDINANCE CREATING REPORTING REQUIREMENT FOR COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL CANDIDATES REGARDING PAID AND VOLUNTEER CAMPAIGN WORKERS PARTICIPATING IN ABSENTEE BALLOT RELATED CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR FAILURE TO REPORT AND FOR OTHER VIOLATIONS OF ABSENTEE BALLOT LAWS; PROVIDING FOR ENFORCEMENT BY THE COMMISSION ON ETHICS AND PUBLIC TRUST; CREATING SECTION 12-14.1 OF THE CODE; PROVIDING SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE CODE AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE
Okay, you bet I am suspicious. So I looked at the WHOLE PDF of this legislation and I really don't see anything wrong with it. It is a positive step to combat absentee ballot fraud. It might even help stamp it out. This from County Commissioner Pepe Diaz? Who would have thought it. Maybe Rebeca Sosa twisted his arm? Whatever happened, it looks like (gulp) something good came from Pepe Diaz.

Maybe instead of prayer they should build a Confessional and a rack just to the left of the Dais.

I'm not sure how anyone is going to enforce this. I'm still waiting for prosecutions from Sosa's ordinance......

As to Diaz, he's an ASS. Sorry, no matter what he does, he's the only one now more unwatchable than Honey Boo Bell a/k/a the Homestead Hillbilly! Martinez was the worst.

If you truly are paying attention the worst two commissioners are Barbara Jordan and Dennis Moss. The injection of race into every piece of legislation before the BCC is just beyond the pale.
Like old and broken records.

Pepe Diaz has him moments...

The worst Commissioner right now us Bovo. What has he done? All he does is street naming, nothing on legitimate legislation.

I heard the fatter he gets, the more sensible he acts.

He is trying to reinvent himself. Hence, Luigi Boria the new Mayor of Doral has indicated he wants to run for his seat in two years.

How could you think that he is doing a good thing “EVER”? Look back at the prayer thing he did the other day!!
If you believe in God, regardless of your faith he will always listen to your prayers even when it is in silence. So what is wrong with a moment of silence!!! So you can pray regardless of your religion???
Or it is something to just rub it in the faces of those of us who do not share the same religion the Christian Family … has. Did you ever read their e-mails and literature regarding other religions?
Then what adds insult to injury is when I hear commissioner Boo and Dias talk like they live perfect moral and ethical lives. I want to remind them that if they believe in God, he knows exactly what they are doing when many of us are not looking. Or this is their way to mask the truth.
Being a “bad boy” and playing with other men’s wives is not accepted by God … (at least the one I worship) …

Now, Boria running against Diaz would be a very fun race to watch. I heard about the Mayoral race in Doral but really didn't pay much attention. I hope someone can unseat Diaz on the BCC. I always try to remember our recent past of Monestine winning over Rolle and it gives me hope!

you have got to be kidding with this ordinance.

absurdly broad, vague. will prompt a huge number of bogus complaints. even has some chilling effect/prior restraint issues. and how can a campaign ID "volunteers" (which isn't defined, because it's nearly impossible to do so) on reports when it might not know who is out there volunteering for it?

how on earth can campaigns know about every "volunteer" who might hand out an absentee ballot request form to a friend or neighbor or loved one? so katy sorenson emails an absentee ballot request form to a neighbor, unbeknownst to the candidate, and then the candidate runs afoul of this kookoo provision?

what about 3rd party groups that do absentee programs independently of campaigns? SAVE Dade, Friends of the Everglades, et al?

what about true "volunteers" (regular ole unpaid citizen activists, not political mercenaries) who want to remain anonymous for fear of retribution by, say, an incumbent like natasha seijas?

what about a true volunteer caller who happens to go off the official campaign script and mentions "absentee ballot" to a voter, unbeknownst to the campaign?

and i have no doubt we will see scores of bogus "ethics" complaints being filed in the week before the election.

lmao.... all that said, i already came up with 3-4 loopholes, work-arounds, just while typing this. too funny.

go ahead, pass this thing, send out a news release, pat yourselves on the back, declare victory, go home!

The decision to sponsor legislation belongs to the elected Commissioner. The responsibility for developing legislation lies with the legislative aides. My guess is the staff in this office is very capable. Commissioner Diaz deserves credit for hiring a good team, and putting forward good legislation.

Heard Boria is willing to put one million dollars of his own money to unseat Diaz.

I would rather have dumb Diaz than a crazy Christian.
