Mayor Cindy Lerner Elected Chair of the Democratic Municipal Officials, National League of Cities. By Geniusofdespair

Mayor Cindy Lerner of Pinecrest has been elected Chair of the Board of the Democratic Municipal Officials of the National League of Cities. Eye On Miami congratulates Mayor Lerner. There are approximately 6,000 municipal officials who identify themselves as democrats, not all of them have voting privileges.

The Board of the Democratic Municipal Officials passed this resolution urging Congress to consider eliminating the exemption for fracking from the Clean water Act and to require more complete disclosure of the chemicals. The Resolution:

Regulation of Hydraulic Fracturing and the Protection of Municipal Water Supplies

Calls for the federal government to undertake responsible management of oil and natural gas drilling production activities such that hydraulic fracturing does not pose a threat to domestic water supplies; calls on the federal government to require oil and gas companies to disclose chemical ingredients used in the hydraulic fracturing process; and dependent on the outcome of ongoing scientific studies, calls on Congress to consider repealing the Safe Drinking Water Act exemption for hydraulic fracturing.
