VOTING IN DORAL. By Geniusofdespair

Because of crowds chanting, voting was REOPENED at around 3:10pm. They had previously locked the doors at 2pm at elections in Doral. The Joe Garcia campaign summed it up perfectly:

Miami-Dade Elections Department Says Voters Can Vote After Saying Voters Can’t Vote After Saying Voters Can Vote – All Within Six Hours On A Sunday

Have you ever seen such incompetence by government officials?

I have never heard of such nonsense with voting. There's a fake argument going on and because our local government and our state government wouldn't bow down to the Democrats, this is what's happening.

Election day is Tuesday. However, seeing this happening now is just a sneak peak as to what is going to happen when and if Romney wins. Mob rules won't work after then, good lawyers will and we'll have a replay of 2000!

Great job everyone! Be proud of this silliness. Over working already overworked people trying to insure a free and FAIR election is out the window with this type of stuff.

Our Obama nightmare will soon be over said...

Townsley tried to shut it down when she saw the line consisted of nearly all Romney voters.

Check out the video and photos of Romney supporters in line in the Herald.

If a white and/or hispanic Republican supervisor of elections shut down voting on a line full of black voters, we would never hear the end of the cries of racism.

Hold Townsley to the same standard.

I hope that today's actions are more a reflection of ineptitude rather than bias. How on earth was Penny Townsley selected for that position?

Do you not know that Gimenez pulls all the strings on everyone under his command. Don't blame Townsley.

Sounds like the Republican racists have their panties in a wad because their candidate is going to lose.

The Herald wrote that there were only two staffers on duty today and they were overwhelmed. The management there is clearly incompetent and inept. Where were the 3000+ cronies at the county who make over $100k annually?

Penny Townsley cancelled the voting. Mayor Carlos Gimenez was furious when he heard that and ordered Townsley to resume the voting. You heard it here first.

only 2 poll workers and 1 printer for the entire county. how can u possibly explain away that level of incompetence and mismanagement?

She needs to be fired!

More good news - New York Daily News joins growing number of newspapers switching endorsement to Romney. Its never to late to back a winner!!!!

I don't get why the Mayor is mad about the voting. What is his beef? I think we need to elect an election chief if he is going to be dictatorial and politicize the process.

Anonymous said...

Why is he angry? The mayor is the boss. He is the one that is held accountable for county decisions. He is pissed that important and potentially controversial decisions were made without consulting him.

The mayor is probably also pissed that the implementation was so poorly planned (one printer and two poll workers is pathetic).

Maybe he shouldn't be the boss. Maybe we should have an elected supervisor of elections.

You are damn right he shouldn't be the boss. If he were operating as a NON PARTISAN, how he was elected, he should have asked the Governor to extend the days for early voting and he should have made a plan with his staff on how to respond to the filed lawsuit. His Republican credentials are showing like egg all over his face. To shut down the Department and lock the doors while people are voting was a disgrace.

Got this off my Facebook page:

Jim DeFede
Story reveals Gimenez to be a bureaucrat, not a leader. Bureaucrats worry about procedures. Mayors worry about people. http://t.co/ks9Pm7yI

Be careful what you wish for. The present system allows for the appointment of a qualified professional. If you make the supervisor of elections an elected position, you will get a professional politician in that spot. We just experienced that phenomenon in the race for property appraiser, a newly elected position.

And the current appointed supervisor, Townsley, is a Democrat. If you elect the supervisor countywide in a nonpartisan election, I can assure you you will get a Republican politician as your supervisor.

We apparently have a Republican politician in charge Anonymous above me. His name is Carlos Gimenez.

Relax, everyone. This is Gimenez. We already got rid of one county mayor. This guy will be kicked out too.

At the end of the day, you don't change the rules in the middle of the game because one side or the other is going to be pissed, and there is no fair way to change the rules in the middle of the game. That being said, there is plenty of opportunity to vote, and not one voter has been turned away. 96 hours of early voting, voting by mail (absentee), 12 hours of election day voting at over 700 precincts County wide.. I remember the time when you could only vote on election day, or by mail if you had a reason... There are so many opportunities to vote this election cycle, I have no idea what else some of you folks want.

I've known Penny for 12+ years--she had the best intentions in mind, it just backfired--nothing to do with party associations.

Alina jut thought she was still in charge, no biggie.

People misunderstood what was being offered. Elections Department (Penelope) was only offering AB requesters to get an AB or return an AB. NOT VOTE ON SITE!!!! That goes to prove that most voters DO NOT READ--they are driven by short headlines!!!!
