Palmetto Bay Election Results: John Dubois is Now Vice Mayor. By Geniusofdespair

Counting Votes in Palmetto Bay
John Dubois won by 28 votes in Palmetto Bay to become Vice Mayor.  Pariser got 2,063 and Dubois get 2,091. Schaffer won, 2,170 to Araiza's 1,953. People have told me that John Dubois spent $200,000 or thereabouts (with PAC money) to Pariser's $17,000. John Dubois also won on absentee votes. With a low voter turnout absentees make all the difference. Only a quarter of registered voters voted.

Palmetto Bay gets the title for dumbest voters in the county. I figured that electing Patrick Fiore could have been a lapse or a fluke. What a bad candidate that was. But this vote proves that the majority of Palmetto Bay voters have proved themselves incompetent to vote. You have to live under him Palmetto Bay folks. I tried to warn you. I hope you enjoy the reign of your Vice Mayor (Dubois accepted the CFC endorsement and they are vehemently anti-gay).

As bad as Homestead is (and that is pretty bad), at least they had the sense to oust Lynda Bell. I think I have to rank Palmetto Bay in front of Homestead in the title for "home of the lame-brain voters."

I guess money can buy you some things -- like campaign flyers that deceive your constituents. Guess we can only expect more deception in the years to come.

Actually Dubois will hopefully help Palmetto Bay maintain its sanity speaking against the already elected officials.

It's a shame he ran on a ticket with Araiza, the perpetual runner-up. Tendrich had no reason to e voted out, an voter's skepticism of Araiza's past losses came back to haunt him.

You don't put a sleazy guy in office. I don't care about him speaking up.
Honesty and integrity is paramount.

If you think the mayor of Homestead Bateman is better that Lynda Bell, then you have to go to the school of "integrety" to learn some...

He is a drug dealer and a thoug, and won based or help from a major developer.

I guess you are not familiar with this blog. All recent mayors in Homestead have sucked and we have written about them all. Why do you think I am calling Homestead voters lame brained? This post is about Palmetto Bay. Lets stay on topic.

However, Homestead was lame brain enough to elect Steve Bateman. Bell is a mean spirited phony but Bateman oozes sleaze,

On the upside, I personally cannot wait to dig in to DuBois personal financial report! It's public. I will wager he does something screwed up either in not disclosing or something weird. I'm also wagering the ties to Homestead Hillbilly Bell will become clearer. It will be a great test for the Ethics and/or public corruption departments or the State Attorney. It's not like anything will come of them knowing the past but it will bring some sunshine in to the shade of political corruption!

By the way, WTF is in the water in Palmetto Bay these days? Everyone is fighting everyone in some type of political camp. It's more complicated than the County Commission.

Who will run against Lynda Bell???

It does not matter who runs against her; she has spent her entire term campaigning under the guise of community outreach with our tax dollars. At least she will be term limited out someday.

Unless someone steps up now, you will be looking at Bell again next term.

Bell limped into office by only 300 votes on the coat-tails of the Tea Party vote.

She will go the way of West and Rivera. Many are now busily planning opposition to her 2014 re-election.

Trust me, she will lose and lose big. You can take that to the bank.

I believe there are viable candidates waiting to run against Bell. It will be a bit of an up hill battle and I'd venture to guess she's going to carry the Palmetto Bay voters, which will not carry Dist. 8. like they used to. It's too divided right now. Unincorporated Dade is the vote any candidate who wants to win is where they have to be courted. Free turkey trimmings are not enough of an enticement so her taxpayer funded campaign needs a new strategy. It will be funny watching how DuBois is going to funnel money to Bell. We already know the Rock Miners will be waiting with their checks. The unreformable lobbyists will also be there. On the upside if Rick Scott continues his nonsense more Dem's will be heading to Tallahassee and Bell could easily lose due to her Tea Party affiliation which helped her last time but will hurt her (along with so much more) next election.

Well tell those "viable" candidates to stop waiting. They have to run NOW.

Dubois spent $200,000 to win by 28 votes. That's an embarrassment for Medina and Castillo. Too bad no one made a huge poster of the mangrove pictures for use at the polls like he did to Stanczyk and Lindsay. Araiza was seen driving the signs around Palmetto Bay and then putting them up at the larger polls. I am sure there are some folks who will never forget the campaign stunt of the recall.

All of this money, ill will, and personal asasinations and for what?

Bell wisely clipped most of her viable opponents from her new district boundaries. Pinecrest and most of the democratically leaning parts of Kendal are now in the X-man's district.

I think the current mayor of Cutler Bay wants to be commissioner some day but he probably wont risk pissing off Bell and probably settle for another term where he is.

Between this election and the presidential election, I don't think anyone has any idea who can defeat Bell. Nor do I think for one second she'll be re elected if there's someone formidable challenging her.

The congressional dist went to a Dem, a really bad one at that who defeated Rivera. The state rep went to a republican because of the Keys but the miami dade voters elected the democratic candidate by over 53%.

Whoever said the "viable" candidates were redistricted out is not paying attention. They weren't and I know the two you are talking about and neither one of them made the run off against her.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this recall nonsense going on in Palmetto Bay. But as so many said when Bell moved her office there, it would turn into chaos and that's paraphrasing. It has and will continue until everyone picks a side and it will be split with no one winning or losing. The only upside is that it divides the dist vote and makes them less relevant which is a good thing for anyone running against Bell who probably bet the farm on geographics and cut out a good chunk of republican Pinecrest voters!

What a great statesman Dubois will make. Bell has already told the press and so many others that she wants Dubois to replace her when she finishes her terms. I am more interested in a public records request for the mortgage note and payments made to elected officials by other elected officials. Very interesting to know whether she is really making any payments.
