If you are an early voter, Gov. Rick Scott made you spend hours waiting in line ... by gimleteye

The Miami Herald reported on the good times had by all in early voting lines stretching as much as six hours in recent days. This is a case of voter suppression, pure and simple, and should give voters reason  enough to send Gov. Rick Scott packing, when his time comes in two years.

How is this voter suppression at all? Both presidential campaigns are pusing voters to vote early, so more people show up, meaning longer waits. The ballot is super long, so it takes people longer to vote, meaning longer waits. Yes, there are fewer days of early voting, but please, early voting still has 8 days with 2 Saturdays to accomodate people who don't want to vote on Election Day (which will have shorter lines and closer polling places) or vote by Absentee from the comfort of their own home. Some suppression.

I went by Dinner Key twice yesterday, once for my morning walk, then later to drop off my absentee ballot. I felt a true sense of patriotism to see these people, despite the endless wait, stand their ground and vote. They defied the odds set up by Scott and Co. and demanded their rights. At 6:30 the place looked like a third world country with full trash cans, hundreds of signs, and a long line of patient people of every size, shape, and color. Jimmy Buffet tunes could be heard in the background escaping from the nearby Tiki Bar. You people in line, you make me proud to be an American!

No one made them stand in line. Vote on election day - the lines are alwasy short, more polling places and more staff.

This is only the least of it to get rid of a very BAD Gov. He is so bad and so dishonest that if there was a way to cut his reign short, I would recommend it.

The county could have opened as many early voting sites as it wanted. If you need to assess blame for long lines, put it where it belongs ... on Gimenez, Townsley, and rest of the unqualified hacks at the county elections department who chose to limit the number of early voting sites to 20.
