The house in the middle belonged to my brother. Lucky guy, he sold it about 3 months ago. He was about 60 feet from the water and there were sliders on the house and a big deck. I have to think all of these houses have a tad of water damage, with their windows blown out and all. Also it appears, by the lean of the house, that it has been knocked off its foundation. There was 8 foot of water in the den. Insurance companies are going to go broke with this storm. Expect rates to rise in Florida. One of these three houses is not covered by insurance.

This is what rich people should expect when they buy a fancy home along the shore. I hope Obama is not planning to give bailouts to the wealthy owners of these homes with our tax dollars.
Hurricane Andrew all over again. Just imagine, that was a cat 1..... What if it had been a 4? Building codes make a difference, and that is something we have to be grateful for in south Florida in spite of the annoyance and cost caused by them. I am really sad for those people.
Rich people? One of the houses pictured is owned by a teacher who couldn't afford the insurance. He bought long ago.
