Why will no political candidate talk about sea level rise?

Because Boone asks them to. Even though the US military has contingency plans in place to deal with security issues related to climate change related refugees in the millions fleeing from flooding, famine and disease related to sea level rise. It IS an issue that should be asked at last debate on foreign policy. Climate change is a national security risk.
Yes, the military has contingency plans. What we know, as a matter of public record, is that the military is making enormous investments in alternative energy. But in terms of the broader issues of national security, it's time for the military to disclose those plans to elevate the issue out of the mess created by Fox News and Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh.
It's no BS that Seawater is bubbling up through stir drains on South Beach flooding out major streets. And that Miami Beach is getting ready to spend $200 million for new pumps, storm drains and seawalls to keep put the riding seas. At one foot rise, everything west of Alton will be inundated. That's not too far off. West of Alton are the low areas of mangroves that were ripped out and filled in with Carl Fisher's barge of dirt.
I talk about this all the time to voters in coastal Dade. It is one of the main issues urgently threatening our local home values. 1. Sea level rise. 2. Deteriorating infrastructure. 3. Overbuilding of housing. 4. Instability of neighborhood schools due to "parent trigger." 5. Lack of economic diversity in Florida. 6. Energy insecurity. 7. Windstorm insurance availability. 8. Casino gambling expansion. 9. Water. 10. Corruption/money in politics.
Although a huge issue, it's too much for the average voter in Miami to grasp. They would associate any candidate mentioning that with a "Al Gore" mentality. Your better of putting on a guayabera shirt and going down to versialles and telling everybody how much you hate Castro and that your grandfather was a Bay of Pigs veteran. Just saying.......
Gimenez doesn't believe in it per the republican playbook so he doesn't have to do anything about it. Consequently the county doesn't follow it's own Greenprint 200-page plan for sustainability. Miami Beach mayor Mattie Bower believes it's a future generations responsibility and that we will need taller buildings to cope with it. The business community is interested in perpetuating the myth that everything's OK so they won't acknowledge it and have fooled themselves into developing more. When insurance companies pull the plug bankers will stop issuing mortgages in south Florida and the whole house of cards will fall.
We live on the high part of the ridge in Coconut Grove, so we will ride it out until we are living on the waterfront and eventually our own island! Just like the people living in the mansions with Romney signs on their gated compounds, it all about me!
As to the basic question posed I believe the economy and national debt are on the forefront. Most people don't have the luxury to worry about this if they can't keep a roof over their head and food in their children's mouths.
It's not to be offensive but I believe that's why this just isn't in the Top 10 of candidate questions nationwide, which is in part what your question was.
Locally, Bower should be shamed into talking about it. Just look at the weekend mess with high tide.

Nature bats last. Always.

I'm voting for Ross Hancock!
I'm voting for Ross Hancock. Let's get someone into the state legislature that understands and cares about the issues we are facing.

JMO
Antarctica has more ice than ever, but the "scientists" are blaming that on global warming? So confusing.
