Why Absentee Ballots Are A Bad Idea. By Geniusofdespair

I got mine a month before the election and filled it out. I have since learned some things and have changed two of my votes. Now I have to get another ballot. Absentee ballots get to voters before all the information is out, that is bad for good government. They should just be used for people unable to get to the polls. Good news. I just called elections. I won't need a new ballot. I just have to put an X over the wrong choice and make the second choice. That fixes my ballot. Don't send your ballot in right away. Give yourself time to make changes.

I made up my mind about several candidates, then changed it again based on new information. I agree - it's always best to wait until election day to avoid last minute surprises.

I am surprised. If you of all people had read the form that comes with you ballot you would have known just to x out. Always keep the ballot to near the end. Many strange things happen in an election fight.

I didn't know that instructions were on the BALLOT SLEEVE. I thought that was just that a Ballot Sleeve. I did look for instructions but not there.

On the other hand, as soon as you mail in your ballot, a lot of the robocalls will stop. Candidates are aware of which voters have already voted AB and will stop spending money on them as soon as they get the reports. Actually, robocalls should be illegal, because they end up suppressing voter participation the same way that jury duty used to, before they changed that system. (The more you vote, the more chance you have to get deluged by campaign solicitations. Your voting history is part of what campaigns use to target you. You shouldn't be penalized for voting in every election, but you are. It makes you a "super-voter" and you become red meat to robocallers.)

robo calls are worthless....

Robo calls are obnoxious, but to say they should be illegal shows a moronic lack of regard for Freedom of Speech which frankly scares the crap out of me.

I find them very helpful. I simply do not vote for the ones that are making the robo calls.

It is not a moronic or scarey to say that mechanical devices that call you in your home do not have the right to free speech as envisioned by the framers.

I hope you use better criteria for voting than simply not voting for anyone who robo calls.

Of course...I was being snarky. I hate them, but I will defend anyone's right to make them.
