Voting 2012 in the Primaries. By Geniusofdespair

In 2012, this is without a doubt the worst group of candidates we ever had running. I am having to pick 'worse' over 'worst' in numerous instances. I give you my reasons, but the lines between candidates are very close and not in a good way.  I am choosing between two very bad choices on a lot of these races. The past 3 days of picking who to vote for has been brutal. I am puking in between writing. You can have a legitimate beef with all my choices but trust me, the other choice isn't a whole lot better. And the option, not to vote is never the right option.

One example people are saying I should have picked Greer Elaine Wallace. Well her husband has skeletons in his closet and there have been charges against him. If he gets arrested, do we want a judge with a husband in jail? Or worse, what if they decide not to prosecute because she is a judge? That would be a tragedy.

Miami New Times - One example of a skeleton in Mayor Otis Wallace's closet (Greer's Husband):
On December 11, 2009, Baldwin secretly met with investigators in a warehouse across from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Doral and spilled his guts. In a sworn statement to the FBI and Miami-Dade Police's Public Corruption Investigations Bureau, Baldwin said he had served as Florida City's public works director for eight years but was fed-up with corruption.

Baldwin began by describing how Wallace had allegedly sold his vote to Steve Torcise Sr., a real estate developer who owned land in Florida City. According to Baldwin, the two made a deal: If Wallace voted to rezone 100 acres of land — and convinced commissioners to do the same — Torcise would sell the mayor a chunk for the cut-rate price of $100,000. Once rezoned, both men would resell the land for a huge profit.

As a republican I can tell you that what is going on in my district(112) is a disgrace. No more hate mail!

Hopefully one of the new democrats-Dominguez or Rodriguez will win in November. Both seem honest and care about the issues.

Well according to Herald they agree on everything except Charter schools. My friend who is a lobbyist and member of the Florida Chamber of Commerce tells me they are the 2 best candidates running in the Dem party in Dade County. Says the Democratic leadership in Tallahassee should not have let them run against each other in a primary. Then we wonder why the Republicans kick our asses in the state races every year.

doesnt matter DLP will wipe them out in the general election. Too much firepower and name recognition.Vote for Eugenio Perz against Bileca!!!!!

I can't believe democratic party hasn't helped Fresens opponent Ross Hancock raise any money????? What are they thinking.Fresen can be beat. His purchase of Apple computers tops what Hancock has raised in total thus far. Pathetic..

to first ANOM, Dems arent any better. Rodriguez in 112 has taken money from Terry Murphy, Norman Braman, christian Ulvert, and many other lobbyists and even ALAN FARAGO! So much for independent thinking...Gonna be someones puppet eventually.

When the candidates come a'callin', just ask, "Are you the one who's going to stick it to us, or the one who's really gonna stick it to us"?

Isn't Alan Farago one of the publishers of this Blog?

You are all way off base. You should care less about who gives the candidate money and more concerned with what credentials does the candidate have to serve ? What has the candidate done to improve their community, what roots do they have in the community and have they led an ethical life. Period the end. We need to screen candidates for their motivations to run. Is it for the betterment of the community, or is it for greed or power.

Go manny Diaz go!

The boldest step the Herald could take is to go a cycle and refuse to endorse any local candidates as a protest. I can't believe the Fresen endorsement. It shows the paper is really AWOL.

"What has the candidate done to improve their community, what roots do they have in the community and have they led an ethical life"

We are having this problems with the Dist. 26 congressional primary. The one candidate that actually lives here doesn't have a prayer and that's sad. Garcia has already run twice and lost to Rivera, now steps in a lady from SW Ranches who is clueless about Dade County, let alone done anything for our Community within Dist. 26.

I've decided to vote for the unknown candidate who lives here because I just cannot stomache supporting the other two.

When it comes down to Nov. I will not support Rivera, but will not support Garcia under any circumstances, so I will probably end up passing on voting within my own congressional race. I also will not vote for a candidate from Broward if she wins who had no roots within this Dist. and probably couldn't find most of it without a GPS!

Miami heralds endorsement of Fresen is inexcusable. This is an example of how the Herald is making itself completely irrelevant on our community and help Miami sink ever lower.
Giving cover to bad politicians, bad policies and bad governance will not improve our community. Or sell papers. Or online interest.

Fresen's endorsement just proves that Genting is driving the decisions over there.

To quote a very old saying in Miami: "I don't believe in The Herald".

Going to vote for Alex Dominguez in 112. He came by my house and introduced himself. He seemed extremely straight forward and answered all my questions directly.I looked on his website and he is a family guy who cares about kids and education. I asked him about casinos and although he isnt thrilled by them he mentioned that we need a "world class Casino" here in Miami and not the glorified Majic City Casino which is a former flea market.Mentioned that he believes the indians got an unfair monopoly. I liked his demeanor and so did my neighbors.

Genius, I am so dissapointed in you on the Greer Elaine Wallace v. Andrea Wolfson race. You could have simply stayed out of it. Why cross the line and support a sitting judge who is figuratively in bed with the CFC? How is she not conflicted anytime a person of 'non-traditional lifestyle' comes before her either as a party or attorney?

I am very dissapointed.

I suggest that Judge Wolfson hold her re-election party at Chick-fil-A. I am discusted with her and blame her parents. I used to think she was from a good family that fought for the rights of all people. I see now that Judge Wolfson only fights for votes based upon which way the political wind is blowing.

This is a dark day when Genius passes on a principle of great community importance due to a personal dislike for the opposing candidate's husband. Look to the candidate, don't hold Greer accountable for alleged sins of the husband. Judge Wolfson has a much greater duty to reject the poltics of hate than Mrs Wallace has to address any allegations against her husband. Mrs. Wallace is holding on the the institution of marrage. Isn't this ironic?

How would Judge Wolfson rule on any issue of a woman's choice that came before her in any form? How about any claim for non-traditional visitiation rights or rights of succession of property in a non-traditional relationship? Her coveting the CFC endorsement tells me all I need to know because the CFC does not support discretion or a case by case basis. The CFC is based upon black and white litmus tests.

I am truly saddened today.

Not voting is never an option. I explained myself but here it is again...

If he gets arrested, do we want a judge with a husband in jail? Or worse, what if they decide not to prosecute because she is a judge? That would be a tragedy.
This is what you want? I don't.

The Herald always endorses incumbents unless they're involved in a big scandal.

You said you were surprised by a check on Andrea Wolfson's report -- here are more clues from SAVE DADE:

SAVE regrets to inform its supporters that the incumbent, Andrea Wolfson, initially sought SAVE’s endorsement but then withdrew her request, explaining that she had decided to accept the endorsement of another organization, even though that organization is avowedly anti-LGBT. SAVE Dade is deeply disappointed by her choice.

I guess I will have to vote for Mr. Spiegel for County JUdge Group 24.
