Miami Herald Moderates its Comments Now. By Geniusofdespair

I was so angry at the Miami Herald today I posted a comment. The first time in months. The paper moderates comments.  When did that start? They don't have enough staff as it is.

Anyway, the Miami Herald ditched my comment: Here is what I wrote on Scott Hiaasen's article on absentee ballot fraud probe in Hialeah:

Scott and other reporters:  Stop saying they can possess 2 ballots.

The designee must provide to the Supervisor of Elections identification from the elector, picture identification of the designee, and a written statement signed by the elector authorizing the designee by name to pick up and/or return the absentee ballot. And:
The designee must complete an affidavit that states that the designee is authorized by the elector to retrieve and/or return the elector's ballot and shall indicate his or her relationship to the elector, if any. Any person picking up and/or returning absentee ballots in violation of the provisions of this subsection shall be punished by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment, in the discretion of the court having jurisdiction over the cause.

Even stupid Rundle said it. How about the caveats people?

I asked Penny Townsley the top dog at Elections:

Okay…these women in Hialeah, would they also have to have the affidavit with them with the ballot…how does it work? If they can't pick up without the paperwork do they have to have that in their possession with the one ballot they are picking up?

She said: "Yes, if they were authorized designees, they would have an affidavit signed by the voter or a letter signed by the voter naming them as authorized designees." She said further, "It is a violation of County Code for anyone to handle another person's ballot in any manner, other than through the Absentee Ballot Designee Policy."

So why didn't the Elections Department catch this infraction? Why did it take a private detective?

...you guys always ditch any comments that don't agree with you. ..what's the difference?

1. Elections doesn't have investigators.

2. We are special...

They only moderate comments when you try to add a photo (like you did). Your comment is now up on the story.

Actually Jay Ducassi told me it was because 3 people complained about my post which I doubt...it was 7:30 in the morning. Who complains before coffee.

Me.

Always.

Until I get my coffee.

Jay was wrong. It was the pic. I bet you never saw your comment posted for even a second. Plus there was nothing to complain about.

Try to experiment next time. First post with a pic, then without one. You will see that I am right. The Herald started doing that about 3 months ago. I used to add pics all the time.

Thanks Sinbad. Your explanation is more plausible. They don't know what is going on over there.

I don't even bother to think till I have my coffee.

I just watched Channel 10 News this AM and they are carrying on the story with the "2 ballots" per person, without explaining who those two people need to be in relation nor the fact one would need an affidavit. So, I guess Sasha & others can hire 500 people x 2 ballots each without anything (joking, well kind of).

They both need the affidavit from the voter but only ONE can be NOT a relative.

GeniusofDespair, if you had to choose between Katherine-Fernandez Rundle and Rod Vereen, who would you choose? Can you make a blog post about it? It would help us voters out here.

Glad I am a Republican and don't have to choose. I have no idea.
