Lionel Messi, representing in the 305 ... by gimleteye

The best football player in the world, Barcelona star Lionel Messi, was spotted last week with his entourage vacationing in Miami. While the top national teams in Europe were chasing the dream of winning Euro 2012, South American stars were showing off their skills in a series of friendly matches. Of course Messi loves Miami: no one recognizes the Argentine, and if he has to explain he plays professional football, people look at him and say, "Sure you do, kid."
I showed this photo (thanks to GossipExtra) of the best athlete in the world tanning at his Bal Harbor hotel pool to my son, who shot back, "That guy looks like a knock-off-jewelry slinger that has shares in a Calle Ocho motel or one of the greatest athletes of all time?" That's my boy.

Fact. You can't teach Messi's genius. Pound for pound, Messi is the man. Does LeBron know who's hand he is shaking? (Thanks, Edgar10)

Agree. The little guy runs circles around the big guy.

The real news in sports is the Heat got Ray Allen. My God man how could you miss that one? What a crappy blog with no mention of the biggest trade of the year.

Where's your patriotism, Dude? The real American sport is beisbal not soccer. go marlins.

And soccer is not a real game, calling it football to fake it to yourself doesn't cut it. When I get back I am going to force you to watch basketball -- a manly sport-- even if I have to do it Clockwork Orange style. Go Heat!

Sorry Ray Allen wasn't a trade they just got him. And you, the Marlin's fan -- you too are deluded. Baseball is a real sport but the Marlins don't count as a real team. In fact, the whole National league doesn't count. Without a DH the League has disqualified itself from REAL baseball.

Man, with opposing thumbs, and "football" seem to have nothing in common. Why is a sport popular that deprives the players of the use of what separates man from other species.

Messi has something in common with middle school girls in the U.S.

You can't use your hands and arms in soccer. Just your feet. You could play it well even if you had no arms at all. What a ridiculous sport. No one cares about this wimp Messi or the gay game of soccer.

Wow. Miami is showing its true nature in these comments: parochial tastes numbed by long term exposure to mercury. I want LeBron to watch Lionel's highlight tapes. Maybe he can pick up a few moves.

Maybe you are comunista!!! like one of our readers says about you over and over. How else do we account for your oddly unAmerican interest in Soccer?

LeBron defies gravity...he rules. Global warming will end your hero's career.

Imagine if there was no basketball, American football, or baseball, and American athletes only had soccer as an option. Does anyone seriously believe Lebron James or Dwayne Wade wouldn't excel at soccer?

If soccer was the only sport, none of the current soccer players would be playing in the game. They are lucky that soccer is currently a third tier sport and true athletes stay away.

Soccer is a girls middle school sport... When I was at west Miami middle I made my own shin pads ... A pair of lovely navy blue with white polka dots shin pads. :) ! Looked great with those pe bloomers

See how soccer left a lasting impression on an impressionable 13 year old?

Why so many old people writing these comments? Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Millions watch your Heat and Marlins. BILLIONS watch Lionel Messi and the sport that breaches national boundaries and continents. I also am amazed Messi can come to your area code and not to be surrounded by huge crowds. Just because you are uncoordinated don't be a hater.

Messi is magical to watch and the player I would most want to play for my team (although Aguero is no slouch). It truly is the greatest game....
