1st in the Series: In Rep. District 100 A Look at Joseph "Joe" Gibbons. By Geniusofdespair

You won't believe this one at all.

Shelly Lisbon from Surfside  is running against incumbent Joe Gibbons from Hallendale Beach for the areas of Northern Miami Dade County, East of U.S. 1...Many Jewish people in that area. It encompasses Aventura, Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, all the way to 88th Street on A1A. It also includes the Eastern part of North Miami and North Miami Beach (East of 1). The district also includes Broward's Eastern communities past I 595. Not a lot of population in the Broward area. There are no Republican's in this race so this one is final in the primary. Everyone votes.

According to the Miami Herald, The flyers from Lisbon have said "A Vote for Shelly Lisbon is a vote for the Jewish Community." The Anti Defamation League contacted Lisbon and said: "Appealing to voters along religious lines is divisive..." Lisbon shot back: "ADL is a despicable organization."  What??? This Sheldon Lisbon is pretty scary. He is pretty much self-financing his campaign with loans from himself.

I asked Joe Gibbons for a comment on what Lisbon said:

State Rep. Joseph Gibbons
"I strongly believe that people should vote for a candidate based on their knowledge, experience and commitment to representing all of the people living in their district and the State of Florida. We in 2012 are above divisive attitudes and actions that divide our community. We deserve inclusive representation!"

I support Joe Gibbons for  State Rep. in District 100. He is  recommended by the Miami Herald. We have no room for small minds like Shelly Lisbon's but...

ACTUALLY I HAVE SINCE CHANGED MY MIND IN THIS RACE, SEE MY NEW POST AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.

Wait...I changed my mind again...

And Again....my mind is made up now in Post 4 on this candidate.  I am back to Gibbons.

Wow, two candidates I want nothing to do with. Let's be clear, I know very little about Lisbon, but what you laid out is troubling. The most uninspiring race out there. Gibbons is and has always been a rep for the casino industry. He's taken an astonishing amount of money from every pari-mutuel + industry player. Met with him last year to discuss community issues, he ended up spending entire meeting talking about being a man of the people. Hasn't done @#$%, but sometimes bravado is all you need, right?

Read my posts the past 3 days. The picks are slim as they all have toxic problems. It is a matter of choosing the least worse.

Perhaps...I usually do take a pragmatic approach, but Gibbons just reminds me time and time again of the major institutional-corporate-democrat model that prevails in Florida. How do we fix something that's broken when there are no parts?

Do some research on Gibbons and you will see he shouldnt be elected...

1) Gibbons shouldnt get too high up on that horse since his campaign manager in 2008 when running the Scott Israel for Sheriff Campaign handed out Israeli flags to voters at the jewish condos.

2) More troubeling is the fact that Gibbons does not live in South Florida. His wife and young children live in the Jacksonville area. As well his homestead exemption was yanked once this revelation was revealed.

3) Gibbons was one of three House Democrats wrote letters in support of former House Representative and Broward County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion. Eggelletion was sentenced on Friday for conspiring to launder money... Rep. Joe Gibbons, D-Hallandale Beach, urged the judge to offer leniency to Eggelletion. Eggelletion pleaded guilty in December…

As I said slim pickings -- neither is great but calling the ADL a despicable organization, that crossed the line. I would hold my nose and vote for Gibbons.

Does anyone have suggestions / recommendation for Property Appraiser position. Which one is worse. I am tending to think politician Carlos Lopez-Cantera is worse than encumb. Pedro Garcia?
