Florida Legislative Races. By Geniusofdespair

I think these are the 2 most interesting races to watch. Why did Alex Diaz de la Portilla switch to a Representative race from a Senator race? I suppose he just thought it would be neat to serve with and mentor his little brother Renier whom is also running for State Rep. Also I think he polled badly against Gwen Margolis. Miguel already won his State Senate seat unopposed. Ick.  My pick in that race with would be Jose Javier Rodriguez. Jose work on those absentee ballots or Alex will win.

These are the other races for State Rep, everyone is qualified now (If you live in Aventura North Miami Beach, Bal Harbor or Surfside you are basically in a different County for your Representative in District 101 - sucks - the only one running is Joseph Gibbons from Hallendale Beach.  Looks like Bruno Barreiro's wife Zoraida bowed out.

There are 3 brothers. Alex, Miguel, and Renier. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla is a State Senator. That's a different chamber of the legislature. Renier and Alex are running for State Rep. This has been explained to you before.

P.S. I don't like any of them. They are all sleazy, but Alex is the worst.

Renier (with an "e", not an "a", doesn't need mentoring. He has served as a State Rep before.

I was trying to give Alex an out -- amusing, wasn't serious -- rather than calling him a loser.

Alex is a nightmare. When he was a senator, a pro-business group (Associated Industries of Florida) gave him their highest rating for siding with big business (and against the citizen/taxpayer) more than any other senator. His personal life is a disaster, too. He is rumored to have his "demons" and the New Times published a story about him allegedly stalking his ex-wife as recently as 2010.

That said, I don't think Gus Barriero (Bruno's brother) is much better. When Gus was in the state legislature, he was censured by his colleagues because he was a deadbeat dad who owed $22k in child support and refused to reveal it on disclosure forms. He then tried to hold himself out as a child advocate. Gus was well-known in Tallahassee for sponsoring legislation for the Church of Scientology. When the Herald asked Gus if he was Scientologist, he said "no comment."

Personally, I have only met the 2 democrats running in my district here in Shenandoah.I can say that both of them Dominguez and Rodriguez seemed sincere and honest. I would vote for either one before the republican candidates!
