Why I Don't Like Amazon. By Geniusofdespair
I ordered a friggin' tube of toothpaste that weighed .60 pounds. They sent it in a big box (that could have fit about 15 tubes) and charged me $5.17 for delivery. I could have gotten it much cheaper with free shipping from vendors NOT on Amazon. If I didn't have a gift certificate to use up, I would never shop on Amazon: EVER. Their shipping costs on both items I bought were excessive. Hey Amazon, send me back the $5 I have been over-charged on the two items I ordered and I will take this post down. I don't know how they compute shipping over there on Amazon's site but it is almost always higher on Amazon listed products - maybe that is how they get you: They lure you in with cheap stuff and then clobber you with shipping charges. I would rather just go to a store, it is faster and cheaper. Ordering by mail sucks.

You ordered a single tube of toothpaste from Amazon and that's it, GoD? LOL.
Amazon is great when you have over $30 of merchandise...then you can get free shipping if you want. Once you get over your $30, throw in that tube of toothpaste or bar of soap or deodorant. It will save you a trip to the drugstore.
As far as their packaging goes, I doubt they have a "single tube of toothpaste" box so you get the next size up.
Off topic: word verificaton for comments at EoM sssuuuucccckkkkkksssss.

I pay for amazon prime and find it to be a great value. I order tons of different things there is rarely a problem. When I did have a problem, their customer service was actually amazing.
Really? You couldn't anything more interesting to order from Amazon than a tube of toothpaste? If you have a Kindle or a Kindle app on other brands of tablet computers, you could have bought an ebook and gotten it without shipping charges. There are a lot of local authors publishing novels set in South Florida who are only charging $0.99 per eBook. And who knows, you might actually enjoy yourself.
Shop local and create wealth in this community. Support our economy, not some national distributor. The Reverend Sterling from the Coral Gables Congregational Church gave great testimony at a recent PACT meeting about the importance of keeping our dollars local.
Rick - I will turn off word verification for a while but the junk that comes through is brutal.
I couldn't find the brand of paste I wanted locally, I saw it online off Amazon for $7.99 shipping free. On Amazon it cost me $15.81. I didn't want to order $30 worth in case I didn't like it.

I read ALL my books Paper or on the I-Phone and did look for I-Phone books on Amazon but there aren't any.
I love reading on the I-Phone.
There is no such thing as free shipping. The cost of the packaging, the handler's time, and the cost of postage are all bundled into the price.
P.S. When you buy very inexpensive things (less than $4), you shouldn't expect any bargains after shipping costs are included. Mail order is a good deal when the shipping cost is less than the sales tax you would otherwise pay.
Genius - Love eBooks on the iPhone and iPad, too. I've published several there. Maybe you read some of mine.
GoD...Google's spam filter does a pretty good job, I've found, only rarely letting one get by.

Amazon Prime is the best. One price for the year and all the shipping is free! Not only that, but it arrives in 2 days! I believe that by the time I get in my car and schlep all over town looking for things, having it delivered saves so much on gas and my valuable time. When the kids needed books for school or for just personal use, I never had to run all over town trying to beat the other parents from the same teacher. The Prime also includes movies streamed to your TV. Check out the prime and you won't be disappointed.
Now if we could only get Publix to deliver again and I could go back to pretending I'm Jane Jetson!
So you are saying you want to CRUSH the local economy? If you don't do anything locally, kiss your hood goodbye. No wonder everyone is out of work.
Not crushing the local economy. First of all, just about everything we buy is not produced or packaged here. We are simply going to a store. Replace that cashier with the UPS drivers and warehouse workers and I'm still supporting the local economy without supporting the oil industry. I also recycle all the materials that my purchases come in and use much of it to package items that I sell on-line which I ship locally. It also frees up my time to share with one of my favorite bloggers how to shop on-line efficiently so that you have more time to concentrate on your readership's enlightenment.
As a long time Grove resident that has watched our local food store, liquor store, drug store, five and dime, etc. disappear to what the Grove has become, I've learned to kiss my "hood" goodbye a long time ago. At least the Head shop is still there! For that I still shop locally!
