Alice Pena: Her Finances. By Geniusofdespair

In her qualifying documents for the District 9 Seat, Alice Pena said her house on 4.3 acres is worth $435,000. The Property Appraiser puts the value at $380,199. Pena claims a mortgage of $195,000 from Bank of America. I did find two Dept. of Agriculture mortgages from 2008 for $87,000 and $75,000. There was a foreclosure going on in 2009 but things were settled in in July of 2011. She makes $21,000 from her farming (eggs and other stuff) and $18,000 from Social Security. She is a Republican, no surprise there and she is 70 years old. She paid $3,788 in taxes in 2011 (she got a $56,430 agricultural benefit, in 2010 it was $105,930).

She claims DERM staff tresspasses. What is she threatening to do to DERM people at 1:11 on the counter? What could she possibly mean? The woman is paranoid. Lee Hefty later (not shown) describes how DERM used the court system in enforcement actions. The people Alice is talking about have had their day in court. It wasn't so long ago that Alice was charging the Army Corps with atrocities, when they were actually buying out some residents with our tax dollars.

I have a question for either the blogger or anyone who might know, but first here's the irony:

1) Are you telling me for $21K a year, she's cost the government millions of dollars in flood protection out in 8 1/2 sq mile?

2) She's obviously anti government, but appears to really, really benefit from the "government" Ag Dept with the mortgages and tax benefits!

Now, the killer question - and I really don't understand this one:

If the County only approved Agriculture uses out in 8 1/2 Sq mile a year or two ago, how could she be getting Ag Exemptions (if that's the correct language) and Ag mortgage? Was there something in the County code allowing this prior to the Ag allowance approved recently?

Inquiring minds!

This woman's in dire need of a psych eval.

You can see what a conniver Joe Martinez is by watching this video. He glosses over her threat. He put her on the agenda and they passed a resolution based on this farce-- changing the scope of the task force she is a member of. This Feb. 21 meeting was theatre at its best.

Comment question: The county loosened Ag uses a year or two ago. They had Ag out there already. Farm financing doesn't look at zoning.

Oh, I remember all too well the people who built there homes/farms illegally out there were protesting and blaming DERM, when they actually broke the law. They went to court, the homeowners lost, and it turned in to a big anti government campaign. Pena was at the charge of the whole mess. How this subdivision of swampland got approved shows the URM needs to go, and Moss is not part of the URM!

To the second poster - I think Braman has lost his mind supporting this candidate!

I am posting this FOR a person who wants to remain anonymous but I HAVE THEIR NAME:

I attended 21 of the 23 CSOP meetings. At first Carol Rist was the chair. She moved to North Carolina and Loly Espino finished the process as chair. Helping facilitate the meetings were professional conflict resolution managers from FSU. But still, CSOP was an unproductive enterprise. Alice Pena and Madeline Fortin were able to sabotage all the benefits that CSOP was created to accomplish. Alice and Madeline had but one agenda which was to make the 8.5 square mile the pre-eminent issue to be resolved for Everglades Restoration at all costs. They were anti-environment, anti-national parks, anti-Everglades restoration, anti-ACOE, and anti-SFWMD.

Alice and Madeline would gather the restoration opponents such as the Tribe, agriculture, fishermen, and airboaters, to oppose every restoration effort.

I was the first poster who asked the questions and thank you for the answers. But, I have another one. In the 8 1/2 sq mile area, didn't you need at least 10 acres to build anything on it? I remember this from I'd say 5 or 6 yrs ago. Anyone know what happened to reduce the parcel size to build on?

Thank you!

Genuis, as to the post you made on behalf of someone, I'd like to clear up just one statement:

"Alice and Madeline would gather the restoration opponents such as the Tribe, agriculture, fishermen, and airboaters, to oppose every restoration effort."

Agriculture does support the Everglades, it's the larger farmers/bankers like Alger, Losner and of course Humbolt (who made a huge profit out there) who does not. Let's not forget "Big Sugar". The Ag Community is very diverse with many facets!

There are many small farmers & nursery people and many in the Ag Industry supporting restoration efforts.

Thank you for allowing me the clarification.

thanks for your clarification...by the way it is JAMES HUMBLE not Humbolt.

This sounds like a Hiaasen book with these cast of characters! I guess it's an "only in Miami" kind of thing or "only in South Dade", take your pick! It's like the wild west (or 'southerners') meets the banana republic with rules made up as they go along!

Unbelievable!

Previous anon poster, it is actually 40 acres that you need to build a residence out there and it has been that way since 1981. Also, up until the recent change, only seasonal agriculture was allowed in the area. Part of the problem is that the people in charge of enforcing the building and zoning codes have looked the other way for fear of being targeted like DERM. DWERM was the only agency documenting all of the illegal activities in the area. One more note, at the meeting in the video, the rambling man (aka Javier Souto) jumped on the bandwagon and criticized DERM for enforcing the County Code. This is the same Javier Souto who is now publicly accusing County staff of either being incompetent or worse because they determined that the three story house being built in his district by a person who he describes as a muslim (like its a bad thing) meets all county zoning and building codes.

Noeman Braman is not crazy, he knows exactly what he wants. The question is, why is it that a lot of people think he is so idealistic and that he only wants what is best for the residents of Miami-Dade County. Use your critical mind people! He has an ulterior motive, which is to bring this County down. His motivation is hate. Follow him and his cohoots and you will see where we will be in the very near future.

I certainly don't appreciate Braman picking a candidate out of the blue, but started thinking - she's perfect. The anti government, anti regulation, etc. She seems to be the pawn of the sprawl crowd, fitting into Bell's regime, or vice versa. I had to wonder why Braman would be trusting Bell at all. But, there could be so many reasons, I'd be guessing at best.

We know Moss supported the Marlin's, so maybe that's one of them.

Here's the bottom line. Garcia makes sense against Barriero. Gibson was going to run with or without Braman and she's highly qualified for the job, his money will help her. Pena came out of left field and is not remotely competent, she's just been a squeaky wheel. He's wrong on this pick and everyone in Dist. 9 should be voting against this woman, other than her pals in the swamp! Braman had no business in this Dist. 9 fight without asking the stakeholders, and he didn't, at least none of the core one's I've spoken to.

Braman may no be nuts, be he did wrong here, and we will let him know by our votes. And, by the way, they're already starting the AB campaign so you can "vote from home", great! I hope the election department is serious about the new ordinance and people end up in jail after this!

The Danger lies within the feeable mind of Alice's. She is a Alpha Epsilon been used to destroy the essence of DERM. DERM's poor leadership gave Alice a name. But as we know everything is NOT in a name.
Side Bar: I was able to gather information about FOWK. I stand corrected for being so vile towards them. I am impressed with the 3 litle piggies and their mighty struggle. I only wish the bald headed one would run for a commission seat! but I think he is a police officer in real life and can't. shame of it
