Miami Dade Charter Review Task Force Membership Sucks. By Geniusofdespair

From Miami Today - Anyone Have Opinions on the other members?
The Charter Review Task Force for Miami Dade County is taking shape.  I find one thing extremely unfair: Hialeah has two Councilmen as Appointees. Councilman Isis Garcia-Martinez,  (a nasty lady) was put on by the City of Hialeah and the President of the League of Cities put himself on the Task Force - He is Councilman Luis Gonzalez also a Council-member of the City of Hialeah. So the city that wanted to secede from the County gets 2 slots at the table. I am not really hot on elected officials being on our CITIZEN task force in the first place.  There are four OTHER elected officials so far, Doral Mayor Bermudez, Senator Rene Garcia, Rep. John Patrick Julien and Rep. Carlos Trujuillo. Thus, the CITIZEN  Charter so far, will have 6 elected officials, out of 21 members. How did the Task Force morph into that? On the 2007 Task Force we had 3 elected officials, that was bad enough. There could be more politicians, all slots are not filled.

Worse, Natacha Seijas's former Chief of Staff Terry Murphy was put on by Barbara Jordan.

This is the citizen's charter folks and look what we get. It Sucks! Putting on the Barf Meter tag as suggested by a reader. It already had the Sucks tag.

I find it disgusting that this task force represents special interests... There plenty of folks who are available to sit on this committee and others that do NOT make a living off the government teat. Elected officials and lobbyists such as Terry M and Lawrence P should be banned such boards.

This really needs to go on the Barf Meter tag as well! Terry Murphy? Has Jordan finally lost her mind? Lawrence Percival - like there wasn't enough reasons to not vote for Gimenez! Is he an Alvarez clone in sheep's clothing or what? Martinez is worse, but at least you know what your getting with him! Greer? The wife of Bruce who apparently pillaged Fairchild with all that nonsense? And, donated to the ethically challenged (and found guilty) Ken Forbes benefactor! And, the pro choice Greer being appointed by the RTL forever Bell? Are you friggin kidding me?

WTF is going on with the water at County hall. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, it does! Can't wait to see that list of appointees to the illegal permanent UDB panel. I'll need another barf bag!

As to the rest, there's just not enough room to type what I have to say on the others! Why don't they just save us taxpayers money for a change and just use the Charter Changes recommended by actual professionals, which have already been vetted?

And, finally, I'm never reading this blog after I eat, because now I'm going to be sick!

Hey, Genius! Why don't you see if you can appointed to one of the remaining open slots? That way you can your money where your blog is!

Right off the bat, this task force is bogus and who do they think they are insulting us in this manner?

If credibility is an issue, there should be no elected officials appointed. And for those accepting the appointments, they have no integrity.

Is there any wonder our county is in such a mess?

You may attempt to sell yourselves as paragons of leadership and integrity, but don't anyone of you or your sycophants ever associate or compare this kind of audacity with "third world countries." I can name many so-called "third world countries" in the Caribbean where this type of insult to the voters would never be tolerated.

To appoint elected officials to a Citizen Task Force supposedly designed to be a reflection of the ideas of us the "ordinary" citizens of the community is not only the height of dishonesty.

Your unadulterated nerve has risen to new heights, and for you to believe this will be ignored by us those "foolish voters who don't know any better," you have made a dangerous assumption and big mistake. In your meager attempt to paint the citizens of this County as lacking intelligence and old-fashioned guts will come back to bite you. Sadly, you may believe yourselves right because we elected you did we not? But you could not be more wrong!!! We were forced to become fully awakened by the constant abuse of your oath of office which knows no boundaries and, although you might think we are all stupid, you will be in for a rude awakening.

Get rid of those elected officials off the task force or suffer the consequences when we politically and legally attack the Task Force as being bogus and with no integrity by usurping positions on this task force which are supposed to be reserved for the "ordinary" citizens of our communiity.

This behavior is so damn disgusting I am ashamed that we have this type of ignorance sitting in judgment of what is right and proper for our community.

You are nothing more than the dregs of this community throwing us crumbs while you and yours reap the benefits. If the people you pretend to serve reelect you, then they are no better than you and they will get what they deserve.

In the final analysis, it appears that the responsibility of those we elect belongs to those of us who know better, and rest assured that we will do everything within our legal authority and constitutional rights to get rid of you at the polls.

There should be no role for this level of insects sitting as County commissioners.

The mayor just doesn't communicate with the people: Case in point, he doesn't even know that no one cares for Percival. He makes my skin crawl he is so inscincere.

Does Bell know where her Dist. is or who her constituents are? Let's recap - 8 1/2 sq. mile, no, but it's going to help dismantle DERM,so why not. Supporting Cemex at Kendal Dr. & Krome, also not in her Dist, but Rock Miners are her biggest supporters. Working with the "Farm Bureau" whose main purpose is selling insurance, not actually doing anything productive to support the Ag Community survive. Now to Greer, who doesn't live in her Dist, but was a School Board Rep, in which she lost to Lynda's buddy, who didn't live in the School Board Dist. (well, he did rent a small apartment to run for the seat) in which Lynda actively campaigned against Greer, and now they're buddy's? I guess Fairchild needs more free money from the County (us taxpayers).

But, I guess this is all okay because Braman say's she's a "reformer", really? And what planet is Braman living on?

Barf & double Barf. This whole Charter Committee of elected officials or ex elected officials is a sham and shame! What about the F***** Citizens? Where are they among this group of hand picked puppets?

Anon: Just above you have said this so correctly. You are absolutely right. I have never seen such a joke in a committee. Now all of a sudden these so call enemies are the best of buds. We know its all about money. The need to keep their interests afloat. Its shameful and disgusting.

While not a big Lynda Bell fan, I believe that she made a good appintment in selecting Evelyn Greer.

As a leader in Pinecrest's incorporation movement and first mayor, Evelyn did a marvelous job in getting Pinecrest up and running. She delivered to Pinecrest residents low-cost, efficient government and is not beholden to Lynda Bell or anyone else in county government. It is true that her husband Bruce heads Fairchild and Fairchild has received county funding, but it would be a stretch to connect Evelyn's service on this commission with any county government operational details.

I don't know about the composition of previous commissions, but what you see is in part a response to a recommendation by the Miami-Dade League of Cities that the cities were under-represented in the past.

Having said that, I agree that it would be nice to have more community leaders on the Commission who are not politicans.

Murphy is still Seijas puppet so you know she will be all over this one just like the last Charter Task Force. Jordan is a loyal friend of Seijas, pay attention to what Jordan fights for on the dais and you can see she is being coached by that nasty woman! Disgusting...

There's no requirement for a Charter Review taskforce anywhere in the charter. The commission started doing that ages ago and it became common practice. The charter directs the commission to look over the document at least every five years and make recommendations for changes. That's it.

And when did elected people lose their citizenship?
