Another Miami Business Leader Sets An Example: Marty Margulies ... by gimleteye

The other day I lamented the fact that Miami business leaders are AWOL when it comes to investing in our community unless their names grace medical centers, performing arts centers, or museums (with help from casino interests). We applauded Norman Braman for his involvement in civic and political causes. Today the Herald reported that developer Marty Margulies has pledged $20 million to Lotus House, founded by Constance Collins, serving Miami's homeless women. That is great news and an example for others with the capacity to give. Everglades advocates and non-profits are waiting for Miami benefactors willing to take on charter members of the Great Destroyers: Big Sugar.

I can normally take Gimleteye with a grain of salt. This time I must state that Norman Braman, smitten with his toppling of Alvarez is way off track. Eye might bemoan gambling reform in Miami but it will come. Delaying the new construction only delayed economic recovery in Miami. Braman is further hanging himself if he thinks his community stature will let him attack a beloved commissioner like Dennis Moss who did more for Dade Co. by far than Braman ever did.

Dear vindicator,

Casinos may come and with that goes away the tiny bit of old tropical Miami left.... And in comes the corruption that will make the current crud look like chump change.

One has to think that you are a lobbyist of some sort who has a thing going with the gambling industry. Even though I personally like mr. Moss, you have to wonder why you are so fond of him to put him on such a pedestal .

I do like Dennis Moss. On my issues, he is pretty good.

I do not understand why a story
honoring the efforts of Constance
Collins and the generosity of Martin
Margulies had to include references
to other community concerns. As a Switchboard of Miami Crisis Counselor, I know that Lotus House provides rare and important shelter and support for homeless women and infants. All the story should have
said is, on behalf of the community, blessings and thanks to Constance and Martin. May your example be oft repeated.
