To The Idiots From IconBrickell Walking Dogs on the Miami Circle Site. By Geniusofdespair

This is a message to the residents/IDIOTS at IconBrickell who walk their dogs on the Miami Circle Site:

STOP!

We should change the guardians of the site. History Miami should NEVER have allowed this in the first place. WHY?

We fought for this property hard in 1998 and 1999, it would have been a building otherwise. I stood out there with signs many a day and at night we had candlelight vigils. We spent tax dollars and donated money to buy this land -- NOT FOR YOUR DOGS. It is a National Historic Landmark. From Wiki:
County Mayor for Miami-Dade Alex Penelas and others interested in saving the Circle, asked the County Commission to file a lawsuit to take ownership of the property. The Commission approved such action on 18 February, and Judge Richard Feder ordered a temporary injunction against building on the site. Baumann agreed to sell, but asked for $50 million, a price which he eventually lowered to $26.7 million. Baumann made a profit of 18.2 million minus the costs. In an unprecedented move, the State of Florida Preservation 2000 land
acquisition program purchased the site from Baumann for that sum in
November 1999, using both state funds and donations from various foundations and private citizens.

I say we should close this passive park if people can't respect its sanctity.

Good thing it is not a Muslim holy site.

Why don't the dog owners walk their dogs on Brickell Park on the south side of Icon? It is a bigger site. At least it was before Jorge Perez began building Icon and starting taking over Brickell Park.

People simply don't care and as long as they can get away with it, they will.

Too late! They were given enough warnings and it is time to close the park because of the ignorance of those owners who would use the space for their own personal dog park.

The authorities are right. Close it down.

It should be part of the national park system, as should historic Virginia key and the Biscayne bay aquatic preserve.

Please pay some respect to the historic landmark.

So what if a dog craps on the Miami Circle? Animals have been doing that there for over 1000 years. Dog crap is biodegradable and it will do no harm. This is just more venom being spewed by dog haters.

It should not matter if it's the Miami Circle or a rundown empty lot. Dog owners should pick up their mess. It's like any other polluting activity - if you want to enjoy your pooper, don't impose the costs on the rest of us. Clean it up.

You should be more concerned about the half billion gallons of human crap that is being pumped into Biscayne Bay by the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department. Stop protecting your buddy, WASAD Director John Renfrow.

Our buddy Renfrow? Are you out of your mind?

You know what you should do reader if you think you have a topic of interest to readers, write a guest blog...don't try to dictate what we SHOULD be doing.

The sewer dumping was an alverez thing

Do you really believe dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of minimally treated sewage every day less than one mile off our beaches was a Carlos Alvarez thing?! Here is a news flash ... the sewage dumping was going on long before Alvarez and it continues today unabated under Carlos Gimenez.

Sadly, blogs like this one are more concerned with a little dog poop in the park than the serious damage to our environment done by the massive daily sewage dumping.

To the Anon above. When it comes to poop, I don’t want to swim in it OR step in it. If the dog owners can’t pick up after their pets - and there are piles and piles of crap at the Circle park demonstrating that they can’t - then they shouldn’t be allowed to use the park. The people who worked so hard to see the site preserved, and I’m going to assume you weren’t one of them, didn’t do it for it to become a dog run.

I don't have a problem with the dogs pooping there. If you think about it, all of Florida was once Indian grounds, and they had no toilets then. Thousands and thousands of Indians (Micosu, Seminoles, etc.)roamed what is now Miami. Now, why is this circle so holy? Brickell apt. owners need to walk their mascotts somewhere.

Dumping sewage into the Bay?

I'm a huge environmentalist - done more in my time to fight for the bay than most of you put together (save maybe Gimlet), and pushing nonsense like that just discredits the work of the rest of us.

The County has three sewage plants. Two of them - the north plant and the central - discharge their treated waste-water (not minimally treated sewage, but not drinking water by any means) out in the Atlantic Ocean, and has done so since the plants were built in the 1970s because that was the law. If you want to start blaming mayors you'd better start with Steve Clark.

The South plant has deep well injectors that go down thousands of feet underground.

NONE of them discharge into the Bay. Ok - they do when the 50 year old pipes start popping and leaking sewage into streets and canals. But you can't blame WASD for that. They ask for rate increases all the time to fix our plants and pipes but for decades the Commission has said, hell no, that means people will pay more for water.

The only time we get upgrades is when we're forced to - and the builders and rock-mining companies freak out. The water treatment plants serving the northern half of the County is getting an upgrade so rock miners don't have to worry about parasites in the ground water they've exposed in their giant lakes, and builders freaked out that we wouldn't have enough water to keep them in business, so we're building a hugely expensive state-of-the-art water treatment system at the southern plant that we can recycle into drinking water.

Both of these things should be done, but the reasons aren't because they were the "right thing to do" but because certain interest groups might get hurt if we didn't.

No special interest groups are benefiting from diverting the waste water outfalls in the ocean, so it isn't going to happen.

lets not compare environmental credentials, because in reality I have been a Biscayne Bay activist longer than Gimleteye. THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT DREDGING, OUTFALL PIPES, BISCAYNE BAY ETC.

IT IS ABOUT FRIGGIN' THOUGHTLESS PEOPLE WHO ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES. SELF-SERVING THOUGHTLESS PEOPLE who think they have a right to walk their dog in all our parks, our greenspace and in Historic places. SO STOP WITH THE REST OF THE NONSENSE. IT IS NOT WHAT THIS POST IS ABOUT.

...do us all a favor and stop reading this blog .... this was your answer to my post? I guess y ou just want people that agree with everything you write, as readers and commenters. Your wish is my command ...I will no longer visit this blog. You will turn off a lot of people with your one-sided comment. Have a nice life.

True ... it seems that lately you bark at every poster that is even a little bit contrary. This blog became what it is because of everyone's input. Now, you just want readers that hold similar beliefs. What an unfortunate change.

I have always been cranky. Where have you all been? I haven't changed.

When someone is so lame, I just can't stand it. I stood out there holding the signs, I went to City of Miami meetings and County Commission meeting, I organized people, I worked really hard to save that property. It was a fucking nightmare. I didn't do all that work and spend all that time to create a doggy park and when one of my readers says it should be, I get really angry -- first because I have such a stupid reader and second because it was my sweat and my time that went into the Miami Circle.

I didn't just sit on the sidelines with my puppy waiting for the fence to open so my friggin' dog can take a shit. I take the historical significance of the site seriously.

I do a lot of work on this blog and I am entitled to get mad when I have to read stupid shit.

G.o.D. - You should be like your partner, Gimmy and never respond to readers. Does he even read the comments he gets?

You can never make your readers happy. Stop trying. The comments are not what makes your blog popular, it is the writing.

I get it , it wasn't about disagreeing with you , it was about disrespecting your work. difference there.

Thank you last two readers...

Genius, don't even give these people the time of day.

They sit around all day doing nothing but looking at their big TV and swimming in their big swimming pool drinking their beer and when anyone tries to do anything to clean up our community they come forward wih ignorant comments. The Marlin's president was right, only 8% of us vote so what can we expect?
